What wonderful writers you are Year 3. I have loved reading all your writing this week as you brought all your learning together to write your setting description about the river. You thought about the journey of the river, what it passed along its way, what lived in the river and what was in the background too. You worked hard on spellings and handwriting and it was lovely to finish the week by writing up your work into our posh author books. Well done Y3! We also returned to our letter writing activity to think about what language might be in a formal letter. This helped us to plan our letter with four paragraphs.

This week in maths, we came to an end of the multiplication and division unit, using our knowledge of multiplication and division and using it to answer word problems. We completed an end of unit assessment and worked on fluency of expanded written method, column addition and subtraction. Our practical maths lesson was a great way to introduce our new measures unit on length and perimeter. We used measurement vocabulary to measure things around the classroom and we also built a fact file of key measurement facts.

We began our new computing project this week: Stop Motion Animation. We looked at programmes or films we know that have used Stop Motion animation, like Wallace and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, Morph, Pingu and even some short Lego bible stories we have watched in the past. We learnt that Stop Motion is lots of photos put together to make a video. We had a practise by filming us writing our names and short messages. We learnt you had to keep the camera (iPad) still and the board too to make it flow and look like magic writing! We really enjoyed this and can't wait to make our own projects next week!

In our RE lesson this week, we celebrated interfaith week! We read a story called On Sudden Hill and thought about the themes of the story. It was all about friendship, including others, showing courage and having fun. We recorded our ideas and thought about how hard it is to let love in sometimes if we are worried about how it might change friendships but the story showed us all the fun that can be had if we do accept new friends. We will continue to make links to interfaith week in our next lesson on Monday.

This week's well-being lesson got us thinking about the question "if I could go back in time to one moment, it would be..." We drew pictures in our well-being journals and talked about ideas.

In geography, we learnt that biomes are places with a similar landscape and climate where similar plants and animals live. We used a map to match animals to the most suitable biome and we located the following biomes; tropical rainforest, savannah, desert, temperate deciduous forest, coniferous forest and tundra, on a map.

To mark Children's Mental Health Week we took part in an activity linked to the theme Know Yourself, Grow Yourself. We looked at the activities that we can do well, and what we would like to improve and how we can get support. We also enjoyed looking at the emotions shown within the Inside out film.

In PSHE, we thought carefully about what communities we belong to and we talked about how communities work together. We also completed a team challenge outside where we were able to demonstrate these skills. This links to, Later, when Moses' arms became tired, the men put a large rock under him, and he sat on it. Then Aaron and Hur held up Moses' hands--Aaron on one side and Hur on the other. They kept his hands steady until the sun went down. Exodus 17:12.

In our PE lesson we played matches in teams of 6. We played by stricter rules than previous weeks and tried to develop some useful tactics as we played different teams. Year 3, you showed superb sportsmanship, cheering each other on, giving each other advice and shaking hands/high-fiving after each of their three minute matches.

This week, we spent time voting for our new school council members. It was so lovely to see so many of you want to be part of the school council and to tell the class why you would be a good member of the team. You then all cast your votes and it was very close. We said goodbye to Gracie and Dylan M who had done a wonderful job last term and welcome Wren D and Charlie as our new Y3 school councillors. Well done!

It was lovely to have lots of you at our Singfest after school club! Miss Holland and I really enjoyed teaching you some more of the songs especially Bungalow which was so much fun! We will send out the lyrics for over half term so you can continue practising at home.

We had another successful and fun swimming lesson where I was proud again by your determination, good listening and all round trying your best!

Maths homework has been sent home today. Have a lovely weekend,
