Our first month on Year 3 is done and dusted and wow, have we been busy!

In English, we finished our 'approaching threat narrative' all about Iron Man. You have worked incredibly hard, editing each paragraph and planning to use synonyms, conjunctions, a or an, rhetorical questions to name but a few. You used the special Y3 editing glasses to help you spot those edits! It was lovely to see you all so proud of your writing. Our plan is to publish this writing into our best books to make us real life authors. I can't wait to see them!

In maths this week, it was all about spotting patterns! We continued to use place value grids and base ten and counters to help us answer questions involving three digit numbers. After adding 1s, 10s and 100s we moved on to adding 1s and 10s when bridging ten. Use your place value grid Mrs Parker gave you to help you with your maths homework at home this week.

In RE this week we continued to learn about Harvest, learning how different countries celebrate Harvest. Which was your favourite tradition we learnt about? We then looked at the similarities across lots of different countries and found out lots of them celebrated together as a community, gave thanks to God and celebrated with food and music.

In design and technology, we worked on making our castles stable and strong and added the facades to our structures. We looked back at the design specification and checked we had everything we had agreed at the beginning of the unit. You added towers and turrets and battlements to your castles and started to pain and add detail, like windows and flags.

We practised our Harvest festival too, singing lots of Harvest songs. We are already looking forward to next week's service. Some of you have words, keep practising at home. You have already done such a good job at this.

Thursday saw you taking part in PE with Mrs Whittingham. We played a game of football tag to warm up then played some games to practice getting into a space after passing, We were encouraged to move as quickly as possible in the game to simulate the speed we need work at on the pitch. Afterwards, we set up some different games: 5v5 matches, a dribbling and shooting game and shooting race game.

This week in music, we practised singing our Harvest Service songs. We just needed a bit of time to practise as a class. This really helped us. We then moved on to our ukulele learning. Our song is called My Dog Has Fleas and lyrics made us giggle! My dog eats green peas, has fleas, I hear him wheeze, starts to sneeze – to name a few! Following the onscreen sheet music was new learning for us. We focused on the letter 'O' for open strings, and strummed our ukuleles when prompted to do so. To help us with this a bit more, we used the highlighted strings on our onscreen fretboard.

On Friday, you looked at longitude and latitude lines in geography and PHSE this week was all about who is in your squad? 'Who supports you in your life and who are you grateful for?' in the unit of don't forget to let love in! Let us think about each other and help each other to show love and do good deeds.
