This week in Y3, we have been writers, singers and fundraisers! We started our week off by officially opening our Y3 fundraising stall for Christian Aid. We opened our classroom doors to the rest of the school to sell our second hand toys and books to raise money for Christian Aid, a charity we had been inspired by in our RE lessons before Christmas. The children designed signs and set up the stall and worked at the stall. We had so many customers and the Y3 children, plus our wonderful Y6 fundraisers were absolutely fantastic shop keepers, handling money, being friendly and giving change. It absolutely warmed my heart to see. We even had some donations after the event of our children who just wanted to give some money to the charity. And for the great news, we raised a whopping £59.93, counted and verified by the Y3s yesterday. Well done Y3, I couldn't be more proud of your class efforts on this wonderful event.
In English this week, we have been working hard on gathering ideas for our setting narrative all about rivers. We learnt about what creatures could be found in rivers and what other things you might see or hear nearby. We then wrote paragraph one to include all of our thoughts. We also reflected on our recent work and came up with our own writing targets which we wrote on post it notes and stuck to the front of our books so we can check in before each write to really try our best to improve. Again, I have seen such grown up attitudes to this work and I can't wait to see the rest of your writing next week. We have also got to know the features of a letter to help us write our own letters which will explain our fundraising project for Christian Aid.
In maths, we continued to learn more about multiplication and division, focusing this week on dividing using partitioning. We divided two digit numbers by one digit numbers and realised sometimes the tens need exchanging into ten ones to be able to work out the calculation. We then had a fluency lesson on this to further our understanding and this is your homework this week too, Today, we begun some work on remainders, and how to find an answer with remainders.
In well-being, we asked the question what do you like/not like to think about? It opened up some great conversations and we thought about strategies to use if we thought about things that worry or scare us.
In RE this week, we continued our unit all about how Jesus changed lives. We learnt more about the disciples and how their lives changed when they met Jesus. We know that they left their lives to follow Jesus with no questions asked! We asked the question 'if you were asked to be a disciple to Jesus, would you have gone? If so/not, why and what would you miss from your life?' We had so many wonderful answers. We then learnt about Zacchaeus, a tax collector who Jesus met and helped and learnt about how his life changed after meeting Jesus. We came up with lots of ideas for what his heart was full of before and after meeting Jesus.
Swimming this week was another successful week with you all listening so well and pushing yourselves to have a go and just keep swimming! We had some lovely feedback from the swimming teachers about your behaviour and efforts so well done Y3.
On Tuesday, we were lucky enough to have Victoria from Singfest come in to our school, to Y3 to help and guide us through all things Singfest. We were singing, we were dancing and we were laughing, jumping, smiling and generally having a ball! Thank you to Victoria for helping us to learn our songs ready for Singfest.
In PE, we have played some games of dodgeball with different rules that changed from game to game so we needed to communicate effectively. In doing this, we used very good peripheral awareness and the ability to adapt quickly to the constantly changing rules.
As geographers, our focus was to look at the position of the sun and earth and how this links to different climate zones. We recapped our knowledge of climate zones at the equator and at the poles, and we used this knowledge to rank 5 locations in order from the hottest climate to the coolest climate.
In PSHE, we looked at the bible quote 'God is fair; he will not forget the work you did and the love you showed for him by helping his people. And he will remember that you are still helping them.' Hebrews 6:10. This lead us to find out about a boy who had received kindness and then demonstrated how important it was to share this kindness with others. We watched a video showing how he had learnt to speak English and then helped others to do the same.
Maths homework this week is on a sheet again to further consolidate this week's learning. Please bring it in for next Friday.
Have a lovely weekend,
