This week we were Romans, Celts, forest school explorers and musicians!

On Wednesday, the Romans took over Wybunbury Delves. We spent the day dressed as Roman soldiers, gladiators, Celts, Roman rich people, Gods and Emperors! Thank you for all your hard work in helping our theme day come to life! We spent the day creating Roman towns, designing Roman shields and learning about Roman numerals. We went outside for a Roman battle and even found some time in the afternoon to watch some Horrible Histories! What a lovely day Y3!

In maths this week, we have started our new unit on multiplication and division and have started by focusing on arrays and what they show us/how they can help us to work out the answer to multiplication questions.

In English this week, we have continued on with the story of Fox and have written a character description of Fox, focusing on what he looks like but also how he moves, acts and what he might say using inverted commas to mark speech. We also gathered ideas for our own writing piece by looking at a character's feelings, what they might say and how we can describe the setting using alliteration.

In spellings this week, our focus has been adding the suffix -ly and remembering the rules for adding this suffix.

In forest school, you focused on nutrition and why we and animals need a nutritious diet.

In RE this week, we completed more of our big questions on our questful map after learning about Florence Nightingale who felt she had been called by God telling her that she would do something great in her life and not to give up. We learnt about her fantastic achievements and how she changed the profession of nursing forever.

As geographers, we consolidated our work on coordinates. To do so, we began thinking about the lines of latitude and longitude. We then explored how coordinates are written using N and S for a line of latitude and E and W for a line of longitude. Finding mystery places by just using the coordinates, gave us a little challenge. We typed the coordinate code into Digimaps and found out which country, continent and even hemisphere the coordinates were in.

In PSHE, we thought about the question, what does encouragement mean to us? Your answers were very thoughtful Year 3. We also had lots of examples where encouragement had been given. We chose a name at random and then wrote down encouraging messages for that person. It was wonderful to see our faces light up when we read the positive messages. This links to Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11
We thought about Love to decide what love is and what it is not. Heartsmart says 'Love makes our hearts strong so that as we let love into our heart, we're making ourselves strong for today, tomorrow and the future.' Our whiteboard was full of ideas of what we think love is. This links to the bible quote, Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, is not selfish, and does not become angry easily. Love does not remember wrongs done against it. Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices over the truth. Love patiently accepts all things. It always trusts, always hopes, and always continues strong. Love never ends. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. We also looked at a clip from the film Moana to help remind us that it is important to let love into our heart. This activity links to Perhaps you have been chosen for such a time as this. Esther 4:14.

We have been meeting with Y4 across the week to learn the songs for our Christmas service. This week, we sung Mary's Boy Child, Little Drummer Boy, It was on a Starry Night and Away in a Manger.

We hope you had a lovely weekend,
Mrs Shaul and Mrs Pointon
