We've had a lovely week together, filled with fun, focus, and lots of learning!

In English, you walked into quite a surprise on Monday--our classroom was turned upside down! There was mess everywhere, chairs upside down, pencil pots overturned, two bows, and lots of feathers. You became detectives, looking for clues and making predictions about what might have happened. We then discovered our new story: Seen and Not Heard. You got to know the example text and As a class, we identified the structure and language features of our example text. Our confidence to find similes, alliteration and past tense words was wonderful to see. We were then very excited to hear that you'll soon be writing your own mischievous stories! To warm up, you wrote some fantastic character descriptions. You've also been working hard on your handwriting, and we were so proud to hand out lots of handwriting pencils this week--well done!

In maths, we began a brand-new unit all about fractions, and you've really risen to the challenge. You've been adding, subtracting, and converting whole numbers into fractions. What stood out most was how carefully you read the questions, really thinking about what each one was asking. We have also worked hard to find fractions of an amount and we remembered that fraction strips are really helpful. You will also see some on this week's homework. Great work showing independence and perseverance!

In reading, you explored non-fiction texts all about the Egyptians. You practised picking out key words in the questions to help guide your answers, and your comprehension skills are coming along brilliantly.

In history, we wrapped up our learning about the Ancient Egyptians by answering the big question: Were the Egyptians a civilised society? You decided they were and gave thoughtful reasons, using what you'd learnt about the River Nile, their religious beliefs, impressive buildings and craftwork, and the artefacts left behind. Your understanding really shone through!

In French, there was lots of fun and laughter as you learnt the names of different body parts through the song Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. You sang with such enthusiasm--magnifique! We have begun to learn the colours. We practised our pronunciation with a partner game and what a great job you did!

In art, you continued your unit on charcoal. This time, you set up your own mini scenes to draw and focused on shape, light, and dark using only charcoal. Your attention to detail was brilliant, and the final results were so impressive we even invited Year 1 to come and see your work. It was such a lovely moment to share your creativity with others--and they were very impressed too!

In RE, we thought carefully about completing our questful map, and in doing so, we reviewed our previous learning, and listened to each other's ideas.

In music, your commitment to your lesson and supportiveness of one another was exemplary. You partnered up and guided your partners when playing B, A and G correctly. You played mixed note rhythms, clapping and saying them first, before playing them as partners, and as a whole class.

In this week's cricket lesson, our focus was to practise bowling. We learnt how to grip the ball and a new bowling technique. It took quite a bit of practice to get the technique then to ensure we threw accurately at the same time. We did this by aiming at the wickets. Finally, we set up some matches where we all all had a go at bowling.

It's been a brilliant week, and you should feel really proud of everything you've achieved. Keep up the great work, and we can't wait to see what you'll do next week!

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Shaul and Mrs Pointon
