What a busy but lovely week Y3! This week in English we have been focusing in on the spag features of the example text. We skimmed and scanned for prepositions, adverbs ending in -ly, conjunctions and inverted commas. We will use these words and phrases to help us write our own setting narrative next week. We then spent a bit longer on conjunctions, looking at sentences, cutting them up practically and working out which conjunctions worked better with each sentence. We then shared the sentences out loud and wrote them down in our books. I am looking forward to planning our setting description next week.

In maths this week, we have continued on with our multiplication and division unit, expanding our knowledge of the written expanded method and also divide two digit numbers by one digit numbers. We did this practically with hundreds, tens and ones and will move onto a written method next week.

We enjoyed our second swimming lesson this week where you developed your confidence in your new groups. You swam breaststroke and backstroke and some of you also jumped in. I loved seeing all your smiles and giggles. Another successful week!

In RE, we delved deeper into our unit all about Jesus, asking the big question 'how did/does Jesus change lives?' We learnt about Jesus' 12 special friends called disciples and learnt especially about Levi (later known as Matthew) and how his life changed after becoming a disciple. He was seen as a strange choice for Jesus as he was a tax collector and the other disciples weren't sure of him. Did he have the right morals and values? We looked at what was important to Levi before meeting Jesus and after Jesus. We recorded our ideas and then learnt a song about the other disciples. Can you remember the other names?

In history this week, we started to get to know all about the Egyptians. This also linked to our Steps to Read lessons where we learnt all about Egyptian writing called hieroglyphics, the River Nile and the kingdoms of Egypt. Our history lesson looked at timelines, CE and BCE and placed the Egyptians on the timeline. We found out that they were further back in history than the Romans and the Romans invaded Egypt too, which saw the end of the Ancient Egyptians civilisation. Lots of you have brought in books about the Egyptians too, and we have enjoyed reading facts about these too! I can't wait to find out more next week.

Well-being this week asked the question if you could visit anywhere where would you go? The strategy we looked at was doing something creative when we might feel sad and worried. We discussed colouring, dancing, singing, drawing and painting. We listened to some calming music too whilst enjoying our special lesson.

In PSHE, we focussed on ways in which we can help others, and what the effect of helping someone is. This links to our Bible quote, 'We must not become tired of doing good.' Galatians 6:9.

As geographers, we have begun our new topic with an enquiry question, What is climate, and why does it matter? We explored the difference between weather and climate by drawing symbols, and then worked hard as a class to decide upon a class symbol. This helped us to understand that climate is all about long term weather patterns. We then used our knowledge of lines of latitude to get to know how many climate zones there are in our world.

Have a lovely weekend,
