We've had another exciting and productive week in Year 3, packed with learning, creativity, and plenty of sporty fun!
In maths, we explored angles for the first time--focusing on right angles. You used right angle measurers (rulers) to hunt for right angles around the classroom and outdoor environment, and it was great to see you applying your knowledge in real life. In our starter activities, we practised telling the time, including half past, quarter to, quarter past, and telling the time to the nearest five minutes. You also learnt how to work out the perimeter of different shapes. Brilliant effort all round!
In spelling, we looked at words ending in -ian and thought about how the meaning of words changes when we add that suffix--for example, magic becomes magician. You've been working hard to spot patterns and remember those tricky endings. We have also begun to look at the prefix anti and how this changes the meaning of a root word to the opposite of.
As writers, we have worked hard with the words and phrases from our example text, and in doing a trade game we are becoming more and more familiar with their meanings. It was great to hear our class discussion about how the main character feels throughout the story. We even drew a feelings graph to get to know how quickly the character's feelings changed at the end of the story.
Reading time has been a chance to enjoy some peaceful one-to-one reading. We've also been getting stuck into our Roald Dahl books, and it's been lovely to hear you talking about your favourite characters and parts of the stories.
In art, your creativity really shone as you brought your clay sculptures to life! Using your carefully thought-out designs, you sculpted unique Roald Dahl-inspired creations--from Sophie from The BFG, a Wonka bar, and the Enormous Crocodile, to Alfie from Esio Trot. Each one was different and made with such care and attention. I'm sure your families will be just as impressed as I was!
In RE, we started a brand-new unit on the Book of Proverbs. You learnt about King Solomon, who was given the chance to choose anything he wanted--and chose wisdom! We had some brilliant discussions about whether that was a good choice, and what you might choose if you were asked the same question.
It's also been a sporty week, with lots of you taking part in Town Sports and Tag Rugby competitions. Thank you for representing our class so brilliantly. You took part with smiles on your faces and showed such fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship--we are so proud of you! This week's PE focus was cosmic yoga. We needed to keep out of the sun so we went through some yoga stretches and balances to get our bodies moving without getting too hot.
In PSHE, we were learning how to keep ourselves and friends with allergies safe. We discussed what an allergy is and how we can avoid allergens. We know that being HeartSmart means being considerate towards people who have allergies. This lesson links with the Bible Reference – Love your neighbour as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than this. Mark 12:31. We have also spent time working reflecting on our Fake is a mistake learning and wrote some next steps.
Well done for another great week. Have a restful weekend,
