In maths this week, we have come to the end of the place value unit. We have covered so much so far in Y3! This week we focused on number lines counting in 1s, 10s and 100s, ordering numbers to 1000 and counting in 50s. We have also completed our power play activity to use 4 digit numbers with a partner. This game allowed us to use our new skills to create the largest and smallest 3 digit numbers with counters. We have been very impressed with your positive can do attitudes towards maths. Another great maths week!

In our English lessons, we have been gathering ideas to help us write our approaching threat narratives all about Iron Man. We have acted out parts of the story in small groups and created freeze frames of different parts of the story so far. We hot seated Hogarth after he had seen Iron Man and asked him all about it. Thank you for our Hogarth hot seat volunteers! We wrote a character description for Iron Man and then thought about how he moves, what he looks like close up and far away and how Hogarth felt when he saw Iron Man. We then planned our first paragraph ready to write up. You came up with some great ideas for your setting and strange happening!
I can't wait to start writing the narratives next week!

We started our first 'construction' unit in design and technology, focusing on designing and making castles! We first looked at lots of different castles and focused on the features of castles. We then designed our own castles, considering what packaging boxes we might need and 3D net shapes. I shared I am going to make my castle for Hogarth to protect him from Iron Man and you then thought about what your castle would be for and why. We decided on a design specification too so considered this within our design. Well done Y3, I'm already looking forward to building these with you next week.

A special request for small recycling boxes and tubes to be sent in for next week if possible. The biggest boxes we need are cereal sized boxes but lots of small boxes e.g raisins, stock cube boxes would be great too along with toilet rolls, kitchen rolls or bigger! Thank you in advance!

In RE this week, we invited Mrs Hughes to come and join us to interview her about her experiences of Harvest in her church and why she enjoys this special time with her church community. You listened well, asked insightful questions and made lots of notes. We then had a go at answering some of the big questions linked to our unit on Harvest. Our guardian angels have lit the lighthouse every morning and turned it off every end of day and read out our lighthouse prayers. Thank you for this special job.

In PSHE, we have been learning about how we can recall memories and link different emotions to them. To help us we thought about the film Inside out and how the main character, Riley, reacted to a memory she had. Later on, she realised that the emotion was joyful and gave reasons why. This links to the bible quote, There is a time to cry and a time to laugh. There is a time to be sad and a time to dance. Ecclesiastes 3:4

As geographers, we enjoyed looking at our school address to find out where on earth are we? We looked carefully at each part of the address to find out which line refers to the village, nearby town, county, country, continent and even the hemisphere that we live in. This helped us to understand how we can zoom out and look at where we live at different scales.

In PE, we have been working on our dribbling and trying to increase our speed when dribbling on the pitch by practicing our turns with the ball. We were able to drag the sole of our foot over the top of the ball in order to turn as quickly as possible and keep control. We then played some 4-a-side matches where the aim was to use the whole width of the pitch. To encourage this, we had two goals at each end and were required to make at least 4 or 5 passes before going for a shot.

Within computing, our focus has been to think of the processes for the input and outputs in different machines. We completed lots of times table processes which was lovely to see.

Maths.co.uk homework has been set for this week. Have a lovely weekend,

Miss McCurrie and Mrs Pointon
