Another lovely week in Y3 has passed us by. This week in maths, we have continued with the addition and subtraction unit. As we developed our skills in Maths, we have practised exchanging by adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers. Spotting mistakes within questions, has helped us to recap and consolidate our learning. We have become a lot more secure with column addition and subtraction, with exchanging too. We worked on adding three digit and two digit numbers. We finished the week with working more on estimating using our own numbers. We then used a number line to estimate to the nearest hundred. This knowledge was then applied to word problems, well done Year 3.

As writers, we have worked hard to create a setting description. Using an image of a woodland, we created a word bank to describe a woodland setting and a sneaky fox. We came up up with lots of interesting noun phrases and even added speech for the fox to say. In English this week, we have investigated the example text looking for different features in the text. We focused on prepositions, conjunctions, alliteration, inverted commas and word choices to make the animal sound unpleasant. We then used role on the wall to look at words and phrases to describe the Fox in the story.

In our forest school sessions, we have worked on team work, listening and having so much fun! Last week, we built shelters for the Roman soldiers who may have stopped at Wybunbury on their way to Chester. We also built a shelter for hedgehogs and looked at different shelters, like different bird's nests. You then worked in twos to start your own fires and toasted marshmallows which you then enjoyed in your shelters. This was fantastic to see Y3! This week, the focus was skeletons from our science unit. You first drew what you thought a skeleton looks like, then you looked at human skeletons and different animal skeletons. You then built snow shelters for your toys, including shelter walls, tunnels and snow castles!!

In RE this week, we continued with our unit on Called by God. We learnt about different prophets who had been called by God, like Noah, Moses, Jonah and Samuel. We learnt their stories and then chose our favourites to create a small world creation of. We used objects, words and phrases and figures to represent our favourite prophet stories from the Bible. We then invited Reverend Alison into our class to find out all about her experiences of being called by God. It was lovely to hear her journey and we thanked her for coming in to see us in her busy day.

In PSHE, our focus was to review our learning so far. We reflected on how we can help look after our heart and the hearts of others. We have also welcomed PC Nick into our classroom to share the important messages about staying safe at home, online and when we are out and about, including staying safe near water. This week, we have begun our learning all about the topic Don't forget to let love in.

We have spent time getting to know more about our courageous advocacy project using an online mapping tool to look at our school grounds. We were excited to see our Education Nature Park is now on the National website. To find us on the map click here.

In Geography, we have worked hard to locate places using coordinates. To help build our next steps in learning, we drew globes on the playground with chalk. We labelled the equator and the Greenwich meridian and also used this knowledge to locate places on a digital map.

Our focus in PE was spinning on patches so we warmed up by revising and practising spinning and tried to be adventurous using different parts of our bodies to spin on. With the apparatus. we recapped our start and finish positions, symmetrical and asymmetrical arms and pointed toes for stepping, and children were asked to perform a spin of their choice on the apparatus and as an extra challenge they could alight the apparatus making different shapes as they jumped. We have also took part in preparations for the indoor athletics competition.

Last week, we took part in a KS2 parade to showcase all our efforts to raise money for Children in Need. It was lovely to see all our colourful creative clothing options, as well as lots of Pudseys walking around our school field. Thank you for all your kind donations.

We have started to learn the songs for the Christmas service which will be led by Year 3 and 4 at church. This has made us all feel quite Christmassy!

We also visited the book fair, and what a lovely selection of books we have on offer for the book fair next week.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Shaul and Mrs Pointon
