This week, Y3 have been descriptive writers, performers, artists and eco warriors! Our English lessons saw us learning more about the mysterious Iron Man and writing our own setting descriptions and kennings poems about the Iron Giant! We also practised our skills to use a and an correctly and when apostrophes can be used to replace a missing letter or letters. We then spent some time in class reading out loud the setting descriptions to the whole class. You stood up on our stage with lots of pride and confidence. This was just wonderful to see. We started our first Y3 spellings unit on prefixes, in particular -mis, -dis, -un and -in. You listened very well and applied this to your writing this week.

In maths, we continued with place value, this week focusing on part whole models and partitioning in different ways. We partitioned numbers up to 999! We used lots of resources again to help us, in particular base 10 equipment and number lines counting in 1s, 10s and 100s.

In RE this week our focus was harvest. We asked the question how do people of faith celebrate harvest? We listened to the story of Noah and God's promise to always have harvest like day and night, winter and summer. We learnt how people of faith celebrate harvest and why. We enjoyed singing the Harvest Samba too.

We introduced our new courageous advocacy project, all about eco and how we can make a difference to our world. We thought of lots of different ways we can make a difference, thinking about water, transport, litter, marine and biodiversity. We made posters to explain why these are important and how a small change can make a difference. We will vote next week for our favourite which will become our project for the year.

We continued with our art lessons, inspired by Henri Matisse and his painting with scissors technique. This week, we made copies of all of our creations and put them into a collage using our own work and our classmates. You then added backgrounds and created your finished masterpieces. Well done Y3!

In history, we started our learning about the Romans. We started with a timeline lesson finding out when the Romans came to Britain and we also started to learn our class song 'Just Like a Roman'.
Our well-being lesson this week was all about our favourite colours and the calming strategy was counting forwards or backwards from any number. We listened to calming music and enjoyed some calming time in our busy week.

Our geography time this week has focussed on comparing physical and political maps. We looked more closely at the imaginary lines displayed on maps and globes.

In our music lesson this week, we recapped the names of the ukulele parts and learnt how to hold our ukulele. We know how lucky we are to have this instrument in school and we are going to treat them with great care.

In PSHE, we spent time thinking about how we can be kind to one another using the idea that we are all different but we all have the ability to be positive or negative to others. We created a collection of positive acts that we can do towards ourselves and others. This week's bible quote is Be kind and loving to each other. Ephesians 4:32.

Thank you for sending in your book reviews. They have been lovely to read! Homework is set on maths.co.uk
