We are becoming fraction experts in Year 3! As the week has gone on, our knowledge has grown and grown. We started the week by familiarising ourselves with the symboles for less than, greater than and equals and applied these to our factions knowledge. We can work out equivalent fractions by using a fraction wall or a numberline and we have had lots of practise to use a ruler to make sure we compare our fractions accurately.

We started the week by rereading and acting out the story of Jemmy Button. We wrote a character description, focusing on show not tell when writing about his feelings and emotions. This will build into our return narrative which we will start next week. In one of our lessons, we took park in a role play activity to freeze frame five key scenes from our Jemmy Button story. It was great to see our actors retell the story and this is really going to help when we start to plan our own stories next week.

We have worked hard to practise some of our Y3 common exception words in spellings this week.

We enjoyed being musicians as we took part in a change and adapt investigation for British Science Week. Our musical maker activity really got us thinking about how sounds are made. We created sound using jars, water and different musical beaters.

Dr. Cocks came into school as part of science week to tell us all about his role as a sports scientist. He told us all about the positive effects of exercise on your whole body. He discussed lots of different ways of staying healthy and then had a go at a short exercise ourselves and looked out for body changes, like breathing, heart rate and the redness of our skin. Thank you to Dr. Cocks. You inspired our children and the staff! Children, would you like to be a sports scientist when you grow up?

In RE this week, we completed our questful maps finishing our unit all about Jesus, where we revisited the question 'How does/did Jesus change lives?' It was also lovely to have some time to reflect back to our answers at the beginning of the unit and think about all we have learnt this half term. We thought about those key people we had learnt about, like Florence Nightingale and Mother Teresa who had used their calling and faith to help others and change not only their lives but many people around them.

In PSHE, we have begun our new Heartsmart unit, Don't hold onto what is wrong, by looking at how an apology can mend a situation. This links to the bible quote Love does not count up wrongs that have been done. from 1 Corinthians 13:4-5. We also thought about what we can do in three different scenarios and what happens, and how we feel when we choose to forgive.

We hope you have enjoyed reading about our week.
