Another wonderful week has flown by in Year 3.

In English this week, we have transported our readers into lots of wonderful settings in English this week. In one of our tasks, we were asked to write about what the reader might see and how the reader might feel in our new setting description. You chose between an ocean, city or village setting. You were all thrilled to share your ideas which had lots of wonderful word choices with alliteration. We talked about what makes a good story and we came up with lots of language features to include powerful verbs, adjectives and noun phrases. This really helped us to identify the key features in our example text. We also talked very confidently about prepositions. Well done Year 3.

In maths, we continued on with fractions this week, focusing on unit fractions, getting familiar with using a fraction wall and using the maths vocabulary numerator and denominator. We ordered fractions and thought about how fractions of a whole must be equal. We have discovered how to add fractions to make a whole and talked about what happens to the denominator when we add two fractions. What great learning Year 3.
Maths homework this week is on maths.co.uk and is linked to our fractions unit of work.

We loved wearing our World Book Day costumes or our comfy clothes on Thursday. We got cosy and enjoyed our books throughout the day in the classroom.

In science this week, we learnt more about shadows and what kind of objects let light through. We learnt the words opaque, translucent and transparent and conducted an experiment to see what items from around the classroom were opaque, translucent and transparent. We then finished our shadow puppet theatres ready for our stop motion animation film projects next week.

In RE this week, we continued to learn how Jesus changes, or has changed lives. This week our focus turned to Mother Teresa who we learnt was called by God. We learnt all about her life and the struggles she had yet she continued to help those in need. We learnt that whilst helping the poor in India, she was also poor and had to beg for food. We made an information poster all about Mother Teresa and what she faced in her life, and her faith in God. We will add these to our RE display.

As Geographers, we used our photos from our temperate deciduous forest biome activity to 'step inside' the photo. We imagined what it would be like to be in the photo and created speech bubbles to describe the animals, trees and clues to say what season we were in. We were also introduced to our fieldwork task which we are aiming to complete next week.

In PSHE, we have now come to the end of our unit – Too much Selfie isn't healthy so we were able to reflect on our learning and set ourselves some Heartsmart next steps.

In our Kick PE session we worked on our invasion games skills. Our focus this week was to work on our over arm throwing.

We have continued to work hard on learning our SingFest songs. We feel we are improving all the time. The concert is only a few weeks away now. With the SingFest club and our music lessons supporting us, we will be more than prepared for the concert!
