Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely Easter break and are feeling refreshed for the exciting term ahead. You jumped straight back into learning this week with so much enthusiasm, and we've had a brilliant start!
We kicked things off with art, where you explored the wonderful world of charcoal. You learnt where it comes from and how to use it to create contrast, texture, and tone. With just one piece of charcoal and a rubber, you experimented with patterns, shading, and even rubbing out to add light into your work. What made it extra special was the way you turned small classroom items into large, bold drawings – it was amazing to see you scale up your ideas with such confidence. They look fantastic – make sure you check out the photos!
In Design and Technology, you've been hard at work continuing your Egyptian collar project. After reflecting on your initial designs, you chose your favourite and got to work bringing it to life. You carefully cut out your templates, using paper clips to keep everything steady, and then moved on to the exciting bit – adding appliqué to decorate them. Your focus and determination were brilliant, and it was lovely to see you helping each other when things got tricky.
In history, you continued to learn about the fascinating world of the Ancient Egyptians. You learnt all about the importance of the River Nile – how it provided food, helped with planting crops, offered resources, and was used for trade and transport. You also explored the question, "Were the Egyptians religious?" and discovered the many gods they believed in and where they worshipped them. You were fascinated by the artefacts left behind and thought carefully about what they can tell us about Egyptian life.
During wellbeing, you took some calming time to reflect on your favourite place to be, drawing it out with care and imagination. You also learnt a new strategy for when you're feeling worried – "shake it all off"! You made yourselves stiff like robots, then wobbly like jelly – it was a brilliant way to release tension, and lots of fun too.
In French, you recapped numbers 0-10 and played a lively game of number bingo. Then, you used everything you've learnt recently to hold simple conversations with each other in French, including a greeting, asking what is your name, telling your name and saying goodbye, have a try at home! Très bien, Year 3!
In reading, you changed books and enjoyed some peaceful 1:1 reading time. It's always lovely to see how much you're growing as readers.
Just a reminder: this week's maths homework is set on maths.co.uk, so don't forget to log in and have a go!
Au revoir for now, and have a lovely weekend,
