Happy half term Year 3! And what a wonderful half term it has been. It has been lovely to get to know you all so well and spend our first half term together. This week we shared our class worship with the school and then parents. You were all superstars with your clear speaking, grown up use of the microphone and fantastic singing. You truly let your lights shine! It was lovely to share CDATs vision of 'life in all its fullness' John 10:10. You even designs slips for the parents to join in and tell us how they live their life in all its fullness which was lovely to see. We were very proud of each and every one of you.
In English this week, we have had a spag focus, looking at prepositions for time and place. We then linked this new learning to sentences around Iron Man and designing the trap for him. We spent some time looking at letter formation and started to join some letters. You really tried your best and I'm looking forward to seeing your writing improve further over the next few weeks. We have also become familiar with word families today, using a song to help build our knowledge.
In our well-being sessions, we looked at ways we keep ourselves safe and what are our most treasured possessions. Our calming strategy this week were saying positive affirmations about ourselves starting with I can, I will, I am...We then spent time recapping the calming strategies we have learnt across y3 and chose our favourites so far.
In computing, we spent some time creating pic collages of life in all its fullness. We selected images, added text, backgrounds and layout and stickers. We will use these as part of our RE display in the classroom.
This week we were introduced to Patch the Pumpkin, as part of our Pumpkin Heroes lesson. We learnt that Patch the pumpkin had a heart on his side that he used to cover up as he was worried about being different to his friends. On his journey, he soon discovered being different was what made him so special and when he took off his patch, he realised his light could shine through and light up all of his friends lives as well as his own. We then carved our own class pumpkin and made our own Patch the Pumpkin. Our guardian angel Milo has made sure Patch's light is shining every day along with the lighthouse.
In PSHE, we have explored the Health aspect of this subject by looking at how smoking can affect people. Our starting point was to think about healthy and unhealthy activities. We learnt about how smoking can affect bodies, why people do not smoke and why people may choose to smoke. We responded beautifully
To end our PE sessions of this half-term, we had the chance to play a few outside games. In pairs, we had to follow the leader, and make sure we were attached to them at all times. The leader could change direction at any time, so we needed to be aware of any change in direction. The last part was a challenge! We played Sharks and Minnows. To begin with we had less sharks. The sharks soon increased in numbers and the minnows definitely decreased! The minnows found it very difficult to get past the sharks, and they were all eventually eaten!
In our music lesson, we played the ukulele to the performance version of My Dog has fleas. Straight away we could hear the increase in tempo. We were a bit apprehensive to begin with. We soon caught up and showcased our strumming – playing with and without a pick. To end our lesson, we worked on our Singfest songs – What a Beautiful World Medley. We will continue with this learning next half-term.
Within our Black History Month lesson, we studied Barack Obama who is the first black president of the USA. A famous painting was commissioned of Barrack during his presidential campaign and this gave us the idea to complete our own posters with inspirational words. We noticed the choice of colours were the same as the American flag and we thought carefully why the word hope was included. We firstly followed steps to create a portrait of Barrack and then we explored his life so far by learning lots of fun facts.
This week we learnt all about a hidden nature challenge to find a plant in an unexpected place ; a place without nature; a repeated pattern in nature; the smallest sign of nature; something new to you. This activity is part of our Courageous Advocacy work alongside National Education Nature Park. We enjoyed demonstrating our teamwork skills as we took photos around our school grounds.
