Another week has flown by in Y3! This week in English, we spent the week putting all of our lessons into action by writing our own Return Narrative story. This was based on the story Jemmy Button and it has been an absolute pleasure to read your stories so far. We have focused on using speech correctly, noun phrases and story language. We will finish the final paragraph on Monday, I already can't wait! We also received a letter, and as we explored the clues, we realised that it was an informal letter that Jemmy had written to his family. We enjoyed taking part in a role play activity before getting to know the language within the letter.

In maths this week, we started a new unit on Mass after finishing our fractions unit on Monday. We became familiar again with blank number lines and had to be maths detectives to work out what each interval represented, up to 1000. We then applied this learning to reading number lines on scales, applying this to grams and kilograms.

In the afternoons this week, we have had our final singfest practice ready for next week's concert. You are all sounded so fantastic! Next Tuesday will be a very special experience.

In RE this week, we moved on to our Easter unit and familiarised ourselves with the Easter story, focusing on what emotions happen throughout the story. We brainstormed as many emotions as we could to start with and couldn't believe that the majority of those emotions appeared in the story. We then recorded when we had felt some of those emotions in our own lives.

In well-being this week, we thought about what we do when we feel different emotions, which fitted in perfectly with the Re work we had completed the day before. We had our swimming lesson this week and I can honestly say every week, the polite and respectful behaviour is commented on by our bus driver or by the swimming teachers. This is a real credit to you as a class Y3. Well done.

Our photos this week, are taken from our geography fieldwork lesson where we explored the question, What is the soil like in our school grounds? We chose a test site using maps, took soil samples, and drew what we could see in the soil. We also stepped into the Science world when we completed a pH test. It was really interesting to compare what was in each jar and learn that our soil is different across our school grounds.

In PSHE, our focus was on letting go of hurt in our topic Don't hold on to what is wrong. This links to the bible quote; : Jesus answered, "I tell you, you must forgive him more than 7 times. You must forgive him even if he does wrong to you 70 times 7."Matthew 18:22. Using a balloon helped us to understand how the hurt feelings might build up inside. We responded really thoughtfully to a time when we have let go of a hurt, and our responses were amazing.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Shaul and Mrs Pointon
