Another lovely week in Year 3 has passed us by! In English this week, we looked at some clues for our new story. There was a jar of water, items from nature and pictures of rushing water and rivers. We looked at pictures from the story and made predictions. We then revealed the story, which was Rhythm of the Rain by Grahame Baker-Smith and read it together! It is a lovely adventure story about a jar of water put back into a river and how it travels all the way across the world into seas and oceans and what it meets along the way. We then looked at our example text which was all about waterfalls. We looked into the mood of the text and then tried to 'change the mood' using our excellent vocab. You were great at this activity Y3, your word choices really did change the mood! We then wrote our own setting descriptions of a river and waterfall which I loved reading. As writers, we have also got to know the example text further to find the key features including similes and personification Thank you for working so hard this week.

In maths, we continued on with multiplication this week focusing on multiplying two digit numbers by one digit numbers. We first focused on partitioning and then moved onto the expanded written method. With lots of practise you got more and more confident with this method.. Today, we have learnt about family of facts to help us link our multiplication facts with our division facts and you all worked really hard. This week's homework is linked to developing this skill.

In RE this week, we started our new unit of learning all about Jesus, asking the big question how did/does Jesus change lives ? We looked at lots of images of wind and light and discussed that these things can be so powerful, even though they are around us all the time. We looked at how sunlight had made a tiny seed grow into a huge plant. We thought about how Christians believe Jesus is powerful, and present, like the wind, even though we can't see him.

In our well-being session this week, we tried to answer the question 'If you could be someone else for one day, who would you be?' We had some great answers with Florence Nightingale and Rosa Parks featuring in our books!

This week was our first swimming lesson too! We were all so excited as we travelled on the bus and got changed quickly ready for our lesson. This week's lesson was an assessment lesson where the swimming teachers were able to group the children for the upcoming lessons. Well done Year 3, it was a pleasure to take you out to the swimming baths.

Our Courageous advocacy project is really taking shape. As a class, we looked at all of our wishes for our nature park from last week, and gathered together our own project ideas. We even able to vote for the project ideas we like the most and creating habitats were the most popular.

We also started our new PSHE unit Too much selfie isn't healthy. We began by thinking about whether it is better to give or receive from others. Boris reminded us that that our heart is strengthened, as are others, when we think of others. This links to the bible quote Love your neighbour as yourself, from Mark 12:31.

In music this week, we continued working hard on our SingFest songs. This week's focus was our first medley – What a Wonderful World. We found a few of the songs a bit tricky to sing along to, but we did not give up. We showed great perseverance! Well done team!

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Shaul and Mrs Pointon
