Happy holidays Y3!
Here is a news round up of our most recent learning. Our time in maths has been spent discovering all about shapes, angles and direction. We have begun our shape unit to learn new vocabulary, know what a right angle and how we can make clockwise and anti clockwise turns. We are beginning to recognise these angles on a variety of shapes. We also finished our money unit converting pence into pounds and pence, subtracting money amounts and finding change.
As geographers, we can talk confidently about the human and physical features that can be found at the coast. We took a virtual trip to Brighton to look at maps, aerial photos and a video of Brighton as a coastal town. We also did a wonderful job to interpret the symbols on a key to help read a map. To explore coasts in more detail, we learnt about a coastal city, a coastal town and a coastal village to discover how our coast is changing. We worked carefully to match photos to the correct map, and we then explored what each place is like. It was great to hear your discussions about what could be found on the maps and on the photos.
In Science, we have started to think about our next investigation based on how far we can jump. We have thought about why we might want to record our jumps three times. We were excited to complete our Science investigation to find out if people with longer legs can jump further. In teams, we all measured our leg length, then set about making 3 jumps. We measured carefully and then entered the information into a results table. We also finished our science planting unit making our last observations on our plants. Where was your plant and did it grow in the conditions you chose for your seed?
We also enjoyed taking part in an online draw along with Access art. They estimated that we took part alongside over 22,000 children! We were able to practise our drawing skills, and explore mark making alongside completing observational drawings.
In history, we completed our Anglo Saxons unit finding more about why they came to Britain, what they called the areas of Britain and what changed and what stayed the same when they came here after the Romans. You were very knowledgeable with your Anglo Saxon knowledge and I am really proud of how hard you worked in these lessons.
Thank you for such a wonderful year, Year 3. We have loved teaching you and will miss you lots! Thank you for all of your lovely words, cards and gifts. It is very kind of you all and we wish you all a lovely summer and a well deserved break.
