As authors this week, we have written our mischief narrative into our best writing books.

In our money Maths lessons, we have worked on making the same amount of money using different coins. We enjoyed getting to know the value of the coins this week. We focused on reasoning questions, thinking about how we can use our money knowledge to answer word problems, one and two step.

In our afternoon on Monday, we took part in our sports day field events. We took part in long jump, javelin and shot put events. On Wednesday, we enjoyed working in our house teams to take part in Sports Day 2025. You did a wonderful job representing your houses and it was wonderful to see so many family members come to watch. Well done to the Red house for your win this year!

In geography, we have continued to look at Brighton as a coastal city, and compared this to two other places, Tenby and Happisburgh. Our knowledge of OS map symbols is growing, and it was great to match images from each place to the corresponding map. We used the maps to explain which place was a village, town and city, and why. We also worked on identifying human and physical features in Southport using an aerial photo and a virtual tour.

This week, we have received a message from Chester Zoo celebrating how many different birds and animals were spotted on our motion camera. We also chose the areas where our bug hotels should be placed and made designs for the signs to be displayed nearby. This is now going to be added on the Nature Parks website.

In RE, we continued with the unit on Rules of Living and thought about who makes the rules, what rules do we have and why? We asked the questions are rules important? and if you could make your own rule, what would it be and why?

In PSHE, we have spent time being negative thought detectives. Spotting the negative thoughts helps us to then replace it with a truth or a positive thought. We were great at this! In the Bible, we reflect on 'And hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. ' Romans 5:5

For our final music lesson, we played a piece called Playing in the Park. After 20 minutes of practising, we were ready to play to the demo track. We were so proud of ourselves when we watched the recording back on the whiteboard. We felt that proud, Mrs Chesters came in to watch us play. She thought we played really well and could not believe we were that good after only a short amount of time. Year 3, your commitment to your learning has been amazing this half-term.

In PE, to finish the unit, we enjoyed playing a cricket game and a rounders game. We demonstrated all the skills we have been learning this term.

Have a wonderful half term break,

Mrs Shaul and Mrs Pointon
