Happy half term Year 3! This week we have learnt about staying safe online, created an anthology of letters and continued to shine in our swimming lessons.
PC Nick came to visit us to teach us all about online safety. He taught us that over 4 billion people use the internet. He told us how to be safe by not sharing our personal information, having strong passwords and age limits of games and how to be safe if you are playing games. We shared what we use the internet for. The children came up with news, research, speak to friends, to share news, share pictures of pets and family, help with homework, listen to music. We talked about being responsible online and our 'digital footprint'. PC Nick advised the children to talk to their grown ups about privacy settings and location services and check they are all in place. We talked about showing respect both online and offline. The children listened really well and asked some really grown up questions. Thank you to PC Nick for coming in to talk to us.
In our stop motion computing lesson, we enjoyed an unplugged lesson whilst we planned our short film. Our project theme is Egyptians and we watched some short stop motion videos to inspire us. We then researched a few facts for our project and worked in partners to think about how we want to share the information in our videos.
In English this week, we have put our plans to great use and have worked on writing letters to Mr. Dixon, the head of CDAT to tell him all about our recent charity event in Year 3. In the letter, we explained why we were writing, where the idea came from, what we did and what the result was. Once we had written them, we used our best handwriting to write them up into neat. On Friday, we then hand delivered them to Kerry and Leanne who were visiting from CDAT. We are excited for them to be delivered and for Mr. Dixon to read them. We have also spent time looking at the four types of sentence, which are; command, statement, question and exclamation. We checked we had the right punctuation and challenged ourselves to change the type of sentence, for example, we could change a question sentence into a statement sentence.
In maths this week, we started the unit on length and perimeter. We recapped mm, cm and m and took part in lots of practical measurement. We had to take in lots of new facts and practise some old ones, like 100cm = 1m and 10mm = 1cm. We have also begun to look at equivalent lengths to compare measurements in cm and and a mixed unit of m and cm.
Our geography knowledge has been extended to learn about our very own biome, the temperate deciduous forest biome. In groups, we created models and thought about the trees, plants and animals that live there. It was interesting to see that this biome can be found in other parts of our world. Year 3, you created such lovely biomes, well done.
In PSHE, we have now come to the end of out unit – Too much Selfie isn't healthy. We were able to reflect on our learning by thinking about a kind act that was shared between a brother and sister. This links to Love your neighbour as yourself. Mark 12:31.
We had our last swimming lesson of this half term and we will continue with this after half term. It has been an absolute pleasure to take you all this week. Mrs Parker and I have been so impressed with your independence skills in getting changed and organising yourselves. You have shown resilience, organisation and positive attitudes. Well done Y3.
Have a lovely half term break. No maths homework has been set but there is a well-being family time activity on Seesaw if you would like to take a look.
