What another amazing and busy week we have had in Year Two...

In English this week, you began the non-fiction part of our river story with a very exciting discovery! We found a mysterious bottle that had washed up at Wybunbury Brook, and inside it was a letter and some photographs of a new journey on the river. When we opened the letter, we discovered it was from Tom, who was setting off on another adventure down the river. However, Tom was feeling a little worried about the dangers he might face and wanted our help to warn him about what he should look out for. Throughout the week, you explored an example text written by Toby, who had written to Tom to warn him about the dangers lurking in the jungle. You then brought the story to life through some fantastic role play, creating freeze frames of the different dangers Tom might encounter along his journey. This creative work helped you to write a spine poem about the dangers of the river, and you also completed some advice writing, explaining what Tom should do to stay safe and how he could overcome these dangers. You showed wonderful imagination and thoughtful writing all week!

In phonics, you have been continuing to revisit your sounds and read with fluency, accuracy and comprehension in your groups.

In maths this week, you have been learning how to count in 2s, 5s, and 10s all the way up to 100. You practised this learning using bead strings, ten frames, and dienes equipment, which really helped you to visualise the patterns in each sequence. You spent lots of time filling in missing sequences and thinking carefully about whether the numbers were going forwards or backwards -- you learnt that if the numbers get bigger, the sequence is going forwards, and if the numbers get smaller, it's going backwards. You also looked closely at incorrect sequences and discussed whether numbers had been missed or if someone had forgotten to count in 2s, 5s, or 10s. To finish the week, you challenged yourselves by learning how to count in 3s -- a fantastic step up in your number knowledge!

In RE this week, you learnt about the wonderful girl who walked 26 miles barefoot to buy a bible after saving up for one for six years. You learnt that the inspirational story of Mary Jones changed the lives of Christians as the bible society was set up which aims to make the bible available worldwide so everyone can read it. You thought about how you can make a change in this world and we wrote these down to put into our RE floorbook. In our courageous advocacy work we thought about different scenarios that might need a kindness leader to stand in and help. We also worked on our script for our worship in two weeks and you thought carefully about how you want to spread kindness around our school. In history, you thought about how cars, planes and trains have changed overtime. You created a booklet to explain how they have changed and wrote some information in them. In music, we listened to a song about friendship. We used a sandwich as a way of discussing pros and cons of the song. We started with a positive for a piece of bread, an improvement for a filling, followed by a positive for a piece of bread, creating our sandwich. We then sang our Hey Friends song. We sang so well, and loud too! In PE, you have been practicing your running skills with coach Beth by completing relay races and a game called mud monsters. In PE on a Friday you carried on building your game skills this weeks focus was on being able to pass a ball and catch it. You practiced this skill by playing a spider's web game and raid the nest. What fun you had!

You've had a brilliant week Year Two and you have worked so hard- well done!

Have a brilliant weekend,

Miss Haynes
