In English this week, we began our final story together--Rosie Revere, Engineer. This inspiring story is about a young girl named Rosie who dreams of becoming a great engineer. She secretly builds inventions and learns that failure is just a stepping stone to success.
You learnt what a compound noun is and used this new grammar skill to write your own sentences. You also wrote a fantastic descriptive poem all about Rosie, thinking carefully about her personality and determination. Later in the week, you completed a "role on the wall" for Rosie, which helped you understand her character in more depth and prepare to write a detailed character description.
To finish the week, you were introduced to your exciting new narrative: Freddie Flapper, the inventor of a flying machine. We can't wait to see what imaginative ideas you come up with!
In spelling this week, you focused on two important rules. First, you learnt how to double the consonant and add -ed when spelling certain past tense verbs, like hop becoming hopped. Then, you explored how to change words ending in -y by removing the y and adding -ied, such as cry becoming cried. You practised using these rules in your writing and spelling sentences--great job applying your new knowledge!
In maths this week, you wrapped up your problem-solving topic. You began by solving problems using addition and subtraction, then moved on to tackle challenges involving multiplication and division. After that, you combined all four operations to solve more complex problems, showing great resilience and reasoning skills. To finish the week, you were introduced to your new topic: position and direction. You've already started exploring turns, movement, and how to describe positions accurately--great work!
In our afternoon learning we have been just as busy. In RE, you looked at the Pentecost. You described the Pentecost in your own words. In PE, you focused on agility skills. In Geography, you used digi maps to recreate the route you went on when we visited Nantwich. You used your map to locate our pictures in the correct order. In computing, you carried on programming quizzes on scratch. This week you created your own design for your very own quiz. You had to think about the questions you would use, your sprites, backgrounds and the algorithms that you would program. In DT, you designed your own chair for baby bear which we will create in our next lesson. In science, you have been growing your own broad beans for the last three weeks you finished off your diary on your broad bean and took it home. You also started an experiment to see what happens if you don't give something to a plant that it needs e.g. sunlight or the correct temperature. We can't wait to see what happens. In music this week, we listened to a song called 'Four White Horses.' We listened to the songs' tempo, dynamics and pitch. This songs' style is Calypso. To create our own rhythms to this song, we chose an appropriate percussion instrument to compliment the music. We are lucky to have own own tuned, steel pan in school. We all had a go at playing some notes on it using a beater. Today we have practised our tennis forehand. We worked on our control of the ball and the racket and then got in a T position to bounce the ball and hit a forehand across the body.
This week has also been very exciting because you got to spend some time in Year Three in your new classroom. You also met your new teacher Miss Rowney and I know you really enjoyed your time and activities spent with her. She is very excited to be a part of our school next year and to be your teacher.
Have a lovely weekend team,
Miss Haynes
