This week, you were performers as you performed your class worship to the school and to your parents. All week, you worked hard on remembering your lines and helping me to put the worship together so we could show our journey as kindness leaders. I am immensely proud of how hard you have worked on your worship and how much effort you have put into it. You told us all about becoming kindness leaders through the archbishop trust and how you were inspired by different kindness leaders. You then told everyone how you had been kindness leaders and achieved kindness tokens for the kind acts you had done in class. You then showed everyone how you had been kind in the community. You message was very strong and clear. I was impressed with how beautifully you spoke, your fantastic singing and even your acting skills. I am sure all of your parents were as proud as me and can join me in saying a huge well done to you all!
In Maths this week, you began your new unit on mass, capacity, and temperature. You started by using balancing scales to explore weight, carefully ordering different items from lightest to heaviest. This hands-on activity helped you understand how mass is measured and compared. Next week, you'll continue building on this knowledge by exploring capacity and temperature--great work so far!
In Steps to Read, you have been exploring the poem book It Starts with a Seed. You have thought carefully about the life cycle of a tree, understanding how it grows from a tiny seed into a fully developed tree over time. Through this, you have answered lots of comprehension questions about the poem, deepening your understanding of its meaning and structure. Well done for your thoughtful discussions and detailed answers!
In English, you have been fully immersed in the non-fiction aspect of Grandad's Island. " Your learning journey began with an exciting letter from Grandad, explaining that he was trying to write facts about Tallulah the Toucan. This led you to explore an example information text about toucans, helping you understand how information texts are structured. As a class, you made the fantastic decision to write an information text about orangutans! You have spent the week researching facts about these incredible animals, learning all about their habitats, diets, and behaviours. Your hard work will help you write an amazing information text next week--keep up the great work!
In a very exciting DT lesson this week, you all took part in a taste-testing session. From cucumber to coriander, everyone showed bravery and enthusiasm by trying something new. It was fantastic to see so many of you exploring different flavours and textures. This experience will help you next week when you move on to the challenge of creating your very own wraps. I can't wait to see the delicious combinations you come up with.
In Science this week, you learned all about the importance of hygiene and how to keep yourselves and your surroundings clean. You explored why washing hands, brushing teeth, and keeping areas tidy are essential, especially when there are lots of germs around. You also discussed how good hygiene helps to prevent illness and keep everyone healthy.
In Computing, you continued working on tally charts and pictograms. This week, you investigated different attributes and created a pictogram to represent the eye colours of your class. You collected data, organized it into a tally chart, and then transferred it into a pictogram, helping you to visually interpret and compare the results.
n RE, you explored why the chalice and paten represent the story of Easter through the Last Supper and how they are used in churches today. To deepen your understanding, you reenacted the Last Supper, using bread and blackcurrant juice as a symbolic representation of the bread and wine Jesus shared with his disciples. This activity helped you reflect on the significance of this moment in the Easter story.
In courageous advocacy, you continued your journey of perseverance by listening to a Bible story where Jesus taught the importance of never giving up. You also learned about Rosa Parks and how she demonstrated perseverance by standing up for what she believed in and striving for change. Inspired by her story, you discovered that you will become perseverance leaders next week by leading an activity with the Reception children, encouraging them to keep trying and never give up.
In geography, you learned about the climate in Kenya and discovered that it has two main seasons: wet and dry. You explored how Kenya's location on the equator influences its climate, making it generally warm throughout the year with distinct rainy and dry periods.
Today we worked on retrieving and throwing the ball back to the wickets, or another fielder. We practised our aim by throwing directly at the wickets to stump out an opponent; celebrating every time we hit the wickets. After recapping all we have been working on throughout this unit, we had some matches – hitting off a tee and focussing on our fielding techniques and teamwork.
You have had a wonderful week and it was lovely to end it in such a positive way when performing your worship to your parents.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend celebrating Mother's day.
See you on Monday,
Miss Haynes
