Another week has flown by Year Two!
In English this week, you continued exploring the recount text of a class trip to the zoo. You carefully analysed the writing to identify key features such as expanded noun phrases, lists, nouns, and -ly adverbs. This helped you understand what makes a recount interesting and detailed. You were then introduced to your new writing task: creating a recount of your own trip to the museum. You gathered ideas by thinking about everything you did, the interesting facts you discovered, and how the day felt, looked, sounded, and even smelt. Using all these ideas, you began planning and writing your own recount, ready to bring your museum experience to life on paper.
In spellings this week, you learnt the rule that the 'o' sound can be spelled with an 'a' when it comes after 'qu' and 'w', like in the words swan, squad, and wand. You practised using these words by writing them in lots of different sentences, helping you to understand the rule and apply it confidently in your writing.
In maths this week, you continued developing your skills in addition and subtraction. You focused on spotting patterns to help you solve mental calculations more efficiently. By recognising number relationships and using what you already know, you were able to complete a range of problems with growing confidence and accuracy.
As well as all of this you completed your end of term quizzes. You completed a spelling, SPaG, maths and reading quiz. I am so proud of how well all of you did and how determined you all were to show off how much you have learnt in Year Two and how much progress you have made. I am extremely proud of all of you!
In our afternoon sessions you have been super busy learning lots of different stuff! In PE with coach Seb you carried on with your focus on your fundamental skills of hopping, jumping and skipping. You played lots of different games to enhance these skills. In RE, you completed your questful maps to show off your knowledge about places of worships in different faiths. In geography, you looked at Nantwich from an arial view and you found different places on the arial view picture. Some of these places we saw on our trip to Nantwich! In DT, we carried on with our journey of looking at stable structures. You had to decide on what was the most stable structure for baby bear. In science, you looked at the difference of a bulb and a seed and what plants can grow from both of these.
We had a very special activity this week because Crewe Vagrants cricket club came and joined us for the afternoon where they taught us lots of different cricket skills and then you actually put all of these skills together for a game of cricket. I was amazed by your skills and I just want to say a huge thank you to Crewe vagrants cricket club for giving you this opportunity.
What a busy week we have had. Homework has been emailed out. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I will see you on Monday.
