We have had a very Autumnal week as we celebrated harvest by doing harvest crafting with our families and watching the Y5/6 harvest worship.
In phonics you have been recapping your sounds and building on your fluency, accuracy and comprehension.
In English this week, you have been writing a paragraph all about the dangers you might see along the river, and these were absolutely fantastic to read! For the rest of the week, we focused on developing our SPaG knowledge. You learnt what possessive apostrophes are and how to use them correctly in your writing, as well as what adverbs are and how they can make your sentences more interesting. We also explored all of the word classes -- nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs learning what each one is and why we use them. We will keep revisiting these throughout the year to make sure we really know them well. You finished the week by writing some brilliant sentences using -ly adverbs and apostrophes, showing just how much your grammar skills are improving!
In maths this week, you completed an end of unit quiz on place value to 100 to show just how much you've learnt over the topic -- and I was so impressed with how confident you've become! We then started our new topic on addition and subtraction. This week's focus was on number facts to 10, recapping your learning from Year One. You discovered that there are certain addition facts that we need to know off by heart, without using fingers or concrete resources to help us count. We also explored the rules and patterns behind these facts, helping you to learn how to solve them quickly and confidently in your head.
In RE this week, you looked at the holy books in Judaism and Islam. You thought about how they are similar and different to the bible. You then finished your questful map to show all of your learning that you have completed to answer the question 'Why Are Sacred Texts/Holy Books So Important To People of Faith' We have completed lots of our courageous advocacy work this week. We started off by learning about the story of the 'paralysed man' and we thought carefully about how kind and thoughtful his friends were. We thought about how they were kindness leaders and how we could be kind friends like them. We then went onto completing some kindness acts around school. First we completed some birthday cards so that everyone in school can have a birthday card. We then went on a secret kindness mission around school which we can't wait to show you in our worship next week. In history, we completed our final assessment to answer the question of 'Have cars, trains and planes always been around?' We have loved learning about our transport topic. In science we learnt what the property waterproof means. We then completed an experiment to see which materials were waterproof so we could advise our teddy what material they should make their umbrella out of. In PE this week we completed some game skills that focused on throwing, kicking and catching. We played our spider web game and a birds nest game. We had so much fun learning how to play these games. In PE with coach Beth, you were practicing your running skills whilst being a superhero! In music, we listened to the song Amazing Grace. We identified instruments we could hear from the onscreen choices. We got all 6 of them correct! Next we listened to Boléro which was composed by Maurice Ravel in 1928. We were lucky to watch the original clip from the 1984 Olympic Games, where Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean won a gold medal for their ice dance routine when dancing to this great music piece. We sang our Friendship song and added our own actions during the instrumental sections.
What a fantastic week we have had in Year Two! Homework has been emailed out.
Have a wonderful weekend,
