In English, you have been continuing to build upon your learning of Rosie Revere, Engineer. You were introduced to the example text of Frankie Flapper, a character who invented a flying machine. You spent time analysing this text, identifying key SPaG features such as expanded noun phrases, conjunctions, and different sentence types. You also completed some in-depth sentence accuracy work to strengthen your grammar skills. Using all of this, you then designed your own invention and wrote a descriptive piece about it--these were some of your best and most creative pieces of writing yet!

In spelling, you looked at your final spelling rule: removing e before adding -ed. You practised spelling words that follow this rule and changed root words into their past tense forms. To consolidate your learning, you wrote these words into full sentences, showing a great understanding of how the rule works in context.

In maths, you started your final topic of statistics. You learnt how to use a tally chart, understanding that it uses four lines down and one across to represent five. You answered lots of questions about tally charts and even created your own. You were especially excited when you had PE with Coach Beth and noticed she was using tally charts to keep score during your rounders game--this helped you see how tally charts are used in real life! You also learnt how to read and analyse tables, and even carried out a class survey on everyone's favourite pet, turning the results into your very own table.

In RE, you built upon your learning of the Pentecost by understanding that the holy spirit was poured upon the disciples. We thought about how Christians believe that the Holy Spirit fills their hearts and daily lives by giving them love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, these are known as the fruits of the spirit and can be found in Galatians 5:22-23. In your books you wrote some descriptions on how you have used your fruits of the spirit to be a better person.

In geography, you completed your own maps on Nantwich. You used google maps to find different places to put on your map. You thought about if these places were in the north of Nantwich or south of Nantwich and placed them correctly on your maps. You even wrote a key so we could tell what the symbols were.

In computing, you finished your final lesson on scratch. You completed your very own interactive quiz on animals by ensuring the correct algorithm was given to it each sprite.

In Science, you thought about the plants you grew and what those plants needed. You drew a poster in your book that we could put up at a garden centre.

In DT, you created your very own baby bear's chair out of paper cylinders. We realised that this was a lot more difficult than we experienced and that we couldn't always make what we had designed. However, your perseverance and resilience made you get there in the end and all your bears had a chair.

In PE with Sam, you built upon your skills of running and dodging. In PE with coach Beth, you completed a game of rounders. In PE with Mrs Whittingham, you played some dodgeball. We talked about the importance of aiming low to avoid head shots and we learnt some of the rules and played some matches. The heat cut our lesson a little short so we cooled down under a tree with a story.

Our song 'Back to the Bay' made us giggle! Some of the lyrics rhymed. A goose and a moose. A whale with a polka dot tail! We enjoyed discussing this song. We then completed, not only our end of unit assessment, but our end of year 2 assessment as well! Year 2, you are always so involved in your lessons – well done! Miss Holland

What a fantastic week we have had!

Have a lovely weekend and I will see you back in school for our final week. This makes me very sad as I really don't want to say goodbye to such a super class.
