Who would have thought Year Two are inventors. This week, you became inventors as you created your own invention narratives. Each day you carefully wrote each part of your story and by the end of the week you had completed your story and wrote it up neatly for Miss McCurrie so she can see all of your amazing writing. We had all sorts of interesting and creative inventions. What fantastic authors you all are

In spellings this week you learnt the spelling rule of adding -y- at the end of the word when it has an ‘I’ sound. You also learnt the rule of doubling the consonant and adding the suffix ing.

In maths, we are recapping on all of our problem solving learning and thinking about the different methods we can use to answer our questions.

In our 3rd lesson of scratch you used your computing and algorithm skills to change a design on scratch. You created a small animation to show the seasons. In this lesson you used a block to start a programme, a block to change between backgrounds and a block to add speech. You put all of these blocks together to create an algorithm. You found this difficult at first but you persevered and managed to do it in the end. Well done team!

For the final lesson in your PE unit, year 2 worked more on their backhand over the net. It was tricky to get the hang of it at first but they persisted and everyone managed in the end to do a backhand shot after one bounce. We set up some mini games and the children scored themselves, they received 1 point for every shot that they successfully bounced into the box on the opposite side of the net. They all tried both backhand and forehand.

In DT this week, we put all of our skills from our learning of moving mechanisms to create our very own design of our moving picture books. We wanted to make our pictures about the Great fire of Nantwich to showcase our learning in a different way. Once you had designed your moving picture books and thought about the different mechanisms you were going to use, you started to create them! On Friday we spent our afternoon, drawing pictures and backgrounds, colouring them in and then starting to put our mechanisms on our book. It was lovely to see how hard you had worked on these picture books and how you all took your time to make it your very best work! Well done team you have learnt so much about different mechanisms that we use in our everyday lives!

We were so excited in our music lesson this week. We got to hold and learn more about the ukulele. We learnt it has four strings, four tuning pegs, has a sound hole and feels very light to hold. We watched a musician play his ukulele and we were amazed at how fast his could play! We can’t wait to play this next year when we are in year 3.

In our RSE week in PHSE, you were all very grown up in your lessons and stayed very sensible throughout. Our focus this year was on the differences between females and males in humans and animals. You learnt how the only difference between each gender is the different body parts that we have. You learnt the correct scientific names for these body parts and I was so proud of how much you remembered from our learning in Year One. Well done for being so sensible!

What a fun packed week we have had with lots of learning adventures. Reports were given out on Friday to your child, I hope you have enjoyed reading through them and looking at the progress your child has made.

I will see you on Monday for our last week together,

Miss Haynes
