What a very successful week we have had as we completed all of our end of Year Two assessments with dedication, perseverance and so much confidence. Overall, you completed 6 assessments on a wide range of skills and you did fantastic. I am beyond proud of every single member of my class this week. You are all superstars!
In English this week, you analysed our text of Rosie Revere engineer. You thought carefully about the words choices, grammar and punctuation they use to make their writing sound better. You carefully annotated our example text and completed your writer’s knowledge to show what they have used. This has given you many ideas for when you start your writing of your invention narrative next week.
In maths, you have been focusing on statistics. We have looked at tally charts, tables and even pictograms. You have inputted your own data onto pictograms both digitally and in your books. You then built upon this knowledge by interpreting pictograms when the pictures show 1 and 2,5 and 10. This gave us lots more practise to count in our 2s, 5s and 10s. Well done superstars! On Thursday in maths, we had a very special visitor come in to teach you maths. Mr Metcalfe carried out a fantastic reasoning session with you all that focused on multi step problems. He showed us how we could have the start of a word problem and the answer to find out the rest of the steps in the word problem. At first, we found this difficult but once Mr Metcalfe showed you how to work it out using the dots, you were able to start doing it independently. You definitely impressed him with all of your skills and he even told Mrs Burns your behaviour was impeccable. Well done team!
This week in RE, we recapped the ascension of Jesus and what happened during this moment. I was very impressed that so many of you could remember it was 40 days after Easter. We then built upon this learning and looked at the day of the Pentecost and what happened during this moment. You found out that the disciples were praying in a room and they felt wind and had fire above their head. All of a sudden they could speak different languages and could heal people. Jesus promised on his ascension that he would send the holy spirit to the disciples and he did. You did some beautiful writing in your book about what happened before, during and after the Holy Spirit came.
In PE this week, year 2 have continued to develop their tennis skills. They played a game to warm up which focussed on forehand striking over the net aiming to bounce the ball into a specific area. Afterwards, they worked more on striking the ball after one bounce to a partner, ensuring the ball bounced once before reaching their partner who needed to catch the ball between their hands and their rackets. When they were ready they started to return the ball with their rackets instead of catching until finally they could have a friendly rally with their partners.
We had a busy music lesson this week. We listen to a calypso style song, followed by a funk style song. These songs were so different, but after listening carefully to the lyrics, we discussed how they link back to our planet. They both involved rain and water. The song messages from each were clear in that having water, oceans, family and each other. It really made us think about playing in the rain and some rainy days we have spent playing outside.
We had a very special history lesson this week as we were given a box of artefacts from the Nantwich museum. Our artefacts were all linked to the great fire of Nantwich. We started the lesson by exploring all of the artefacts and thinking about the materials they were from and how they might have been used. There were some artefacts that looked similar to things we use now so these were very easy to guess. Some of the artefacts were a little more trickier as we had never seen anything like it so we couldn’t relate it to anything. Once we explored them, we grouped them into artefacts used by tudor, artefacts that could start fires, artefacts that were used to stop the fire of Nantwich and artefacts that would prevent the fire happening again. We then used the wonderful videos from the museum to explore the artefacts and change which group they might be in. You found out that after the fire people had to pay for a fire insurance plaque to put on their buildings and you also found out that they built piped under the ground to houses from the river so if a fire happened again they wouldn’t need to fill buckets from the river. You were so interested by this lesson and a huge thank you to the museum of Nantwich for providing us with all of the resources we can’t wait to visit next week now.
In Geography Mrs Chesters took your lesson whilst I was on a course. You went on a journey to the capital city of Wales which you found at was Cardiff. You explored the physical and human landmarks in Cardiff and the characteristics. You looked at an arial view of the landmarks in Cardiff and used a map to plot where these places were. You are definitely developing your map skills in this term.
You have worked so hard and I just can’t believe how the weeks are flying by. It will soon be the summer holidays before we know it.
Have a wonderful weekend team and I will see you Monday.
