What another busy week. We have found lots of pockets of time this week to enjoy our learning in the sunshine.
In English this week, you were introduced to the fiction part of our story. We read the rest of The King Who Banned the Dark and discovered that the citizens revolted against the king by coming up with a clever plan to bring the darkness back. During a big firework celebration, the king felt upset that he couldn't see the fireworks properly because of the artificial sun. The citizens climbed up into the palace and turned off the artificial sun switch. When the darkness returned, the king was finally able to see the grand finale of the fireworks and realised he had made a mistake. You were then introduced to your own banning narrative--The Queen Who Banned the Silence--which you will use as inspiration to write your own stories. You also completed a character description of the king, and we were excited to announce our new Handwriter of the Week--well done to Benji!
In maths this week, you were introduced to your new topic on time. You began by recapping o'clock and half past from your Year 1 learning. You then moved on to reading times at quarter past and quarter to. You've shown great confidence already, and many of you have been proudly telling me the time throughout the day. You have enjoyed building on your learning by completing lots of practical work with the clocks in school seeing if you can show different times on your clock. Well done for your fantastic enthusiasm and focus!
In our afternoon learning we have been very busy. In PE with coach Sam you completed some work on tennis skills. In RE, you learnt about what events happen in a church you designed your very own church and discussed what events would take place in your church and what you would need for these events to happen. In history, you have really enjoyed carrying on with your learning about the Great fire of Nantwich. We were very grateful to receive some resources from Nantwich museum. We looked at some artefacts from the tudor times which helped us to understand how fires happened so much because there was no electricity. You learnt all about Nicholas Browne and how he started the fire by brewing beer in his kitchen. You complete a diary on this from the perspective of Nicholas Browne. In art, you started to work together in your teams to create your very own tudor house. They are looking really good already and it was lovely to see you all work together so well. We have also completed sports day practice this week and we are so excited to run our races on Tuesday. In music, we continued with our improvising journey. We played notes D, E , G and A this week. We listened to a new song entitled – 'Music is all around.' Having listen to the music with the lyrics, we found it easier to gather the tempo of the music and play using four notes this week. Great work year 2! In PE with Mrs Whittingham you carried on with your dance topic. After struggling last week in our transitions, we really focussed in our pairs to ensure we could make our dances flow smoothly. We achieved this by reducing the number of props and ensuring good communication in our pairs. Everyone worked hard on their partner routine and we managed to add these sections onto our group dance from week 2.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend in the sunshine. Homework has been emailed out on Friday.
See you on Monday,
