Our first week back after half term has been fantastic! We delivered a brilliant class worship, created some super Google Slides and we even started our brand new science unit.

During English this week, we focused on poetry. Did you know that CDAT are running a poetry competition? We did! So we got straight to work thinking about what poetry is. We learnt that poetry can be many different things and our poetry focus for the week was narrative poetry. We performed the poem Please Mrs Butler and used this as inspiration to write our own poems. We put a litter twist on them! We finished by looking at rhyming couplets and wrote some more narrative poems around the idea of littering – well done, team! We now have some excellent entries for the competition – fingers crossed!

We continued to also spend lots of time this week working on our handwriting. We thought about boat, sun and sea letters and where they sit on the line once again. Our focus this week was on washing line joins to sun letters.

In Phonics and our reading sessions this week, we continued to recap a range of sounds and spellings. Well done, team. It's also been great to see so many book reviews this week too, please keep it up!

In Maths, we continued to build upon our knowledge of addition and subtraction. We looked at the column method for subtraction this week and thought about what happens when we don't have enough ones to take away. We exchange! We answered a range of Power Maths questions around this. We also looked at the bar model this week. We used it to answer a some tricky word problems in our Power Maths books.

In our MyHappyMind session for this week, we moved onto our new unit of "Celebrate". We thought all about how amazing our brains are and how we can use our brains in a positive way.

In Science this week, we started our new unit on everyday materials. We told Miss P what we already knew about materials and then went on a materials hunt around school to see what their uses could be. We visited classrooms, the playground and even the adventure playground. We will build on this work next week.

In Computing, we started our brand new project on Google Slides. We each managed to log on using our own class email address and from this, could add pictures and text to our slides. We will continue to explore Google Slides next week.

In P.E, we completed sessions with Mrs Jenkins and Ebony. With Hayley, we continued to build on our football skills and continued to take part in a series of mini games.

We were very lucky as we had an extra Forest School session this week with Mr Hadfield. He helped us understand everyday materials as we searched the Forest School area for them! It was brilliant to see all your investigation skills on show and the use of our scientific vocabulary along the way.

Throughout the week we have taken part in a number of worships. On Friday, we shared our class worship with the rest of the school and parents and carers. We loved sharing our message of how littering is NOT okay. I was so impressed with everyone as we spoke beautifully and sang our wonderful song – well done!

In PSHE this week, we completed our first drugs and alcohol lesson. We thought about what was meant by the word risk. We discussed risky situations and how these could be unsafe. We worked in teams to look at pictures where we spotted the dangers, risks and unsafe situations. Well done, team!

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr Dale
