What an exciting week we have had in the snow! It definitely got us all in the Christmassy mood.
In English this week, you have worked hard on writing a setting narrative for our summery picture in our night gardener story. Quite a contrast to the weather we have had this week! You focused on using similes, expanded noun phrases and adjectives ending in ful or less to create a beautiful description. We can't wait to finish these off next week!
In steps to read this week you have been reading the story of 'Wild Wood'. You have been introduced to a different take on fairy tale characters and their role in the story. We have loved answering questions about each part of the story whilst developing our comprehension skills.
In RE this week you have been looking at why the angels told the shepherds the good news about Jesus' birth. We took part in a good news/bad news hunt to understand how news can travel so far and be shared around. You understood that the birth of Jesus was spread so far because he is the son of God and he is our saviour.
In DT this week, you learnt how to thread a needle, tie a knot and even complete a running stitch. It was wonderful to see how calm you all were when completing this activity whilst you were thinking about what your next step was. What I loved even more was how many of you helped each other and how some of you were just experts already. I can't wait for us to make our pouches. I wonder how you will design them in our next lesson?
In music this week, we practised some of our nativity songs. We then moved on to use our online glockenspiel on the interactive whiteboard. We each created rhythms using three notes. Some of us got wrapped up in our playing, we played quite a few rhythms!
We explored different turns and pathways today, creating sequences independently in various pathways and at different levels. Then the children worked on the apparatus and got more creative with their sequences. We worked on giving feedback to our peers and showing off our skills so that other people could magpie some ideas if they were struggling.
In our well-being we completed two tasks. You wrote about your favourite activities and what you are most proud of. I just love reading your journals and finding out more about you each time.
In art this week, you focused on completing feely drawings in forest school. Mr Hadfield got you to put certain objects behind your back. You had to use your sense of touch to carefully feel what was behind your back so you could draw it on your piece of paper. You had different types of leaves and twigs to draw! You really are developing your drawing skills. In the rest of your forest school session, you had so much fun in the snow. You created snow shelters and sculptures. You had so much fun using a bucket to build ice castles and making snow men. I think this is a session you will remember forever. You then ended the session with a toasty fire whilst roasting marshmallows in the snow.
This week you couldn't go to a sports hall athletics session we had planned so we carried one out in school. You had so much fun completing all of the different activities! You have also played in the snow on Tuesday with the rest of the school on the field. You had your kick session as well on Thursday. You've also practiced the nativity twice and you have really enjoyed finding out what different parts you are playing and find out what words you will say.
What a brilliant week you have had! Homework has been emailed out on Friday for this week. We are consolidating our learning around using the column method to solve addition and subtraction equations.
Have a wonderful weekend,
