It's been another fantastic week in Year 2. We have been creating moving mechanisms, become terrific time tellers and loved soaking up the sun along the way...

In English this week, we continued our T4W all about our focus book, Traction Man. We carried on reading the story and built upon our learning from last week This week saw us complete the innovation stage of our T4W. We created new characters, changed storylines and focused on our key targets. We looked closely at using expanded noun phrases this week to help us create descriptive stories. We also used a range of SPaG including apostrophes, commas and exclamation marks! Our stories are sounding fantastic and give a great platform for us to write our very own Traction Man versions next week.

We continued to use our phonics knowledge to help us with spelling this week, as well as a focus on word classes. We identified nouns, adjectives and adverbs throughout the week in the many books that we read. We also completed some SPaG work this week as we recapped some key spellings and perfected our joined handwriting skills.

In Maths this week, we started our brand new unit on time. It's been a week crammed with learning and we are becoming more confident in using clocks with each lesson. We recapped what we already know about clocks and used our mini clocks to help us tell a range of times. We looked at o clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to. We used a combination of interactive SeeSaw lessons to explain key time concepts as well as our regular Power Maths learning. Remember to keep practising over the weekend!

In Geography, we started our new unit on the United Kingdom and its components. We recapped what we already knew about the UK and used our atlases to find the 4 countries. We also used the index of our atlases to locate the capital cities of those countries. We will build on this next week when we add grid references to our list of geographical skills. Well done, Year 2!

In R.E this week, we started our new interfaith unit all about Judaism! Firstly, we thought about Christainity and what we know about that particular faith. We thought of concepts such as the cross, God, Jesus, the church, the Bible and many more! From this, we started to think about how different faiths have different ideas and researched Judaism. We used SeeSaw to voice note key elements from the faith including synagogues, Rabbis and the Torah. We will build upon this learning next week.

In our extra P.E session this week we once again focused upon cricket skills. We completed a range of stations. These stations included: batting and bowling, aiming, bowling at wickets and team catching and throwing games. Well done, Y2.

We continued to build upon our DT unit of levers and mechanisms this week by introducing another moving part: levers. We spoke about how a lever has a pivot point and this helps the lever itself to move as a mechanism. We built simple levers that allowed our superheroes to fly through the air. We will build on our skills once again next week.

This week in music, we completed our study work page. We wrote about what we enjoyed the most. We have learnt so many new skills this year that we struggled to choose our favourite!

We also took part in a range of worships this week, our favourite being House Worship when we spoke about the goat, cow and chicken story and the underpinning message within it.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr Dale
