What a fantastic first full week back we have all had in Year 2. We delved deeper into our topic, discovered ways to divide and so much more

In Reading and Phonics we continued to recap key sounds, spellings and practised our comprehension skills. We also continued to leave lots of book reviews, keep it up, team!

In English this week, we started our brand new T4W unit. Our story is based on the three little pigs with a twist. That twist being “The Three Little Aliens”. We were shocked to find a crashed alien spaceship on Tuesday, finding lots of mysterious clues along the way. We even saw some CCTV footage! We then learnt our model text throughout the week, as well as completing a cold write beforehand. From this, we all have targets including adding adjectives and a focus upon possessive apostrophes! We also spent time completing short burst write tasks around our targets. Next week will see us build our toolkit, boxing up and sharing the writing stage of our writing, how exciting!

We also practised our handwriting this week. We used this alongside our Y2 spellings.

In Maths, we started our new unit on multiplication and division. We have had a big focus on division this week. We have looked at sharing and equal groups. We also spent time looking at how the x2, x5 and x10 tables can be related to division facts. We used Power Maths to underpin our learning, as well as practical resources to help us share equally. Some of us even managed to go onto the challenge questions – super work!

In Art, we continued our investigations into the artist, Vincent Van Gogh and his Starry Night artwork. We used viewfinders to focus upon particular parts of the picture and thought about how this made us feel. We then tried to replicate his artwork using oil pastels. We made sure to use a range of techniques including blending, layering and drawing. We will be creating our own versions next week, I can’t wait to see them!

In History, we started our new unit all about the space race and famous astronaut, Neil Armstrong. We started by completing our cold task and wrote down what we know about the subject already. We also ordered some space fact pictures along a timeline from oldest to most recent. We will continue our investigations into Neil Armstrong and the space race next week.

In Computing, we took part in our latest online safety lesson. In the lesson, we thought about how technology makes us feel and the important message of what to do if we see something online we don’t like. We used emojis to capture our emojis and learnt that we must also tell a trusted adult if we see something we don’t like.

In French, we recapped our knowledge of numbers to 10. We played games, sang songs and also had a helping hand from Jules, who used his French knowledge to help and support his friends in the class.

We also spent time taking part in a number of worships throughout the week. Our favourite was where we got to share our own prayers. They had lovely messages spread throughout them.

In R.E, we started our brand new BIG question of “Why did Jesus teach his disciples to pray the Lord’s Prayer: ‘Your kingdom come?" We thought about what God’s Kingdom means to us. We drew pictures and thought about what makes our world part of God’s Kingdom. Well done, team.

Trash or Truth? We shared the story of Boris the Robot in our HeartSmart lesson this week. Our job was to decide which statements were truths or lies. These statements may be things we hear or speak about ourselves. Boris struggled to differentiate between truths or lies when feeling comfortable within his family. He had to try really hard to listen to the truths just like we have to sometimes do. We learnt that it is okay to make mistakes. We are human, and we all learn from mistakes. Bible reference: ‘We capture every thought and make it give up and obey Christ.’ 2 Corinthians 10:5

Have a lovely Sunday,

Mr Dale
