Year Two, we have reached our Christmas holidays. It has been a fantastic half term working with you all and getting to know all of your individual personalities. I am so impressed with how hard you have worked and the determination and dedication you have showed to your learning.

This week has been all about celebrating Christmas and finishing off our learning jobs.

In English, you have finished off your diary entries about when William saw the dragon tree for the first time. I have really enjoyed reading through your diary entries and thinking about how much progress you have made with your writing since September. Your imagination and creativity has really helped to improve your diary entries and you have worked hard on using your green pen to help make corrections.

In Maths, you have continued your learning on shapes. You have learnt what a vertice is and how many vertices there are on the 2D shapes. You also learn how to draw 3D shapes. Building on your learning from the previous lesson, you learnt the importance of knowing how many vertices there are on each shape as you will draw dots for each vertice and then draw each side of the shape. We found out it was super important to make sure we are drawing shapes with a ruler!

In phonics and reading, you have been working hard on your assessments. All of your books have been changed for the holidays and your book will match up with your assessment.

In art, you finished off your final lesson. You put all of your drawing techniques together and completed a natural floor drawing. We went on a hunt to find different natural materials outside and then you drew these objects on a huge piece of paper. You had to decide which drawing medium you wanted to draw with. You had the choice of charcoal, wax crayon and a art pencil. You really enjoyed completing this lesson in the hall and drawing with lots of space and on your bellies.

In computing, you learnt how to edit photos. You learnt how to change the colour, brightness and saturation. You had lots of fun doing this. You then learnt how to tell if a photo is real or fake. How do we know it has been edited? What clues can we look for? You have definitely enjoyed learning all about digital photography this half term.

In forest school, you had a super last lesson with Mr Hadfield. You showed great teamwork today as you worked together with your teams to build dens. You used tarpaulin and natural resources to create your dens. You then had the best time roasting marshmallows in your own dens. What a windy but fun forest school lesson this was!

In DT you evaluated your pouches and thought about what parts you enjoyed and what parts you found difficult in the making process of your pouches.

As well as all of this amazing learning, you have had lots of fun Christmas celebrations too. You have watched the KS2 Christmas service, preschool and reception's nativity and the pantomime. You have completed lots of Christmas crafts and made your Christmas cards for your families. You had a huge disco in the hall with Y1 and you finished the week by chilling and watching a Christmas movie. What a fun week!

My Christmas has already been made as on our last day all of our Year Two family were back together again. I am so glad that all of our children are feeling better and it was so nice to see everyone else welcome them back into school.

I would just like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas break celebrating with your families. Make lots of memories and I can't wait to hear all about it when you are back in January. A huge thank you to your families for your cards, messages and gifts.

See you all in 2025,

Miss Haynes
