Happy Friday Team!
In English this week, we described the exciting Wild Rumpus from Where the Wild Things Are. We then created adjective, noun, and verb poems, carefully choosing powerful words to bring our ideas to life. After drafting our poems, we wrote them up neatly, making sure they looked just as fantastic as they sounded!
In math this week, we focused on subtraction by finding the difference and working with fact families. We tackled missing number problems, using our fingers and number lines to help us. We also solved addition and subtraction word problems, applying our skills to real-life scenarios. To finish the week, we completed an end-of-unit check to see how much we had learned!
In our RE lesson this week, we learned about Good Friday and what the Bible says happened on this day. We found out about Judas betraying Jesus, His crucifixion, and being placed in a tomb. To help us understand this, we looked closely at seeds and bulbs--tiny, brown, and lifeless on the outside, but full of potential to grow into something beautiful or edible. Just like Jesus was placed in the tomb and unseen, seeds go into the soil before new life emerges. We also talked about Jesus' words in John 12:24, where He compared His sacrifice to a seed being planted to bring new life.
In our Geography lesson this week, we started our new topic by exploring how the weather changes throughout the year. We began by listing different types of weather we knew, such as fog, thunder, and sun, before reading Meet the Weather by Caryl Hart. We then drew different weather types and learned how to record temperature using degrees Celsius. Looking at photos, we discussed the weather we could see and spent time in the garden observing it firsthand. We watched the flag to see how the wind was moving and noticed how the temperature had got colder as the day went on.
In our second PE lesson this week, we created four more dance moves to complete the routine we started last week. We chose new words from our word bank and spent time thinking of movements that matched them. Once we selected our favorites, we combined them with the four moves from last week, bringing our dance to life! We also continued practicing our underarm and overarm throwing, working together brilliantly with no disagreements. It was wonderful to hear everyone encouraging each other, showing great teamwork and compassion--our Kick value for this month!
In our music lesson this week, we focused on preparing for our upcoming class worship. We practiced our worship song and added actions to make it even more special. Everyone felt so happy and proud of how we performed, and we can't wait to showcase our kindness and talents during the worship!
In our DT lesson this week, we started our new topic on structures by exploring different types of windmills. We discussed how some windmills move with the wind and thought about what makes them strong. Using a cup, we investigated how to find its middle and considered what would make the strongest structure. We're excited to continue building and adding more to our windmills in the next lesson!
In our Science lesson this week, we recapped the different parts of the human body and discussed our five senses. Then, we tested our senses by identifying objects through smell, tasting lemon juice and describing its flavour, putting on our coats without using our sight, and feeling objects to find out which one was the roughest. It was a fun and exciting way to explore how our senses help us experience the world!
In Computing this week, we focused on grouping data. We practiced sorting objects into groups and counting how many groups we had. We learned how to classify objects and understood that items that look different but are the same can still be grouped together. This helped us see how data can be organized in different ways, even if the items appear different at first glance.
On World Book Day, we went on a story hunt in the garden! We searched for QR codes, scanned them with the iPads, and listened to some wonderful stories. It was so lovely to sit outside, enjoy the fresh air, and immerse ourselves in different adventures. What a magical way to celebrate reading!
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
