Happy Friday Team!
Year One have had a super busy week this week. On Thursday we got to go into the village and plant sunflower with some of the local councillors. We went into Wybunbury village to plant sunflowers that had been sown and nurtured in school. Some sunflowers were planted in borders, others were planted along the side of Wybunbury Tower. Our bears, Winnie and Winston enjoyed their trip out too! We want to say a huge thank you to Councillor Kamila Guilliard and Councillor Sandra Clark for accompanying, and supporting us with this important job. Wybunbury Parish Council kindly provided us with the resources to grow the sunflowers so we could add a small bit of summer to Wybunbury village.
In our English lessons we have been busy writing our diary entries up in our neatest handwriting oin our new publishing books. We cannot wait for Miss Haynes to see how great our writing is. On Friday afternoon we had a bit of a fright when Mrs Chesters came in and told us she had put posters up about a wolf because the police had told her they had seen one in Wybunbury. We spent the afternoon finding out lots about wolves, wondering where the wolf had come from and thinking ways to capture the wolf if we were able to see it.
In maths we have done lots of recapping different lessons. We did some more on time, really thinking about telling the time to the hour and to the half hour. We were also looking at solving balancing equations. A balancing equitation has two sums that need to have the same answer. We spent a lot of time breaking each question down to find the answer. In mastering number we have been looking at the numbers 11 – 15. WE discussed how each of these numbers are made from 10 and another number.
In computing we have been given the task of designing their own space race game. We spent time designing our own backgrounds that we will draw on ScratchJr. Once we had designed our backgrounds we learnt how to use the speed up block. We talked about giving our rockets different algorithms to ensure one rocket would win the race.
After warming up with game of human skittles in PE, we practised are target skills by bouncing a ball across to a partner and seeing how many throws and catches we could do in row. Then we introduced a hoop in between are pairs and had to bounce the ball into the hoop, steeping further away from their partners as they improved. We finished with a game where the hoop (target) was moved further away every time they hit it and closer every time they missed. The winner was the person whose target was furthest away after 2 minutes. Good job team!
In our Design and Technology we have been using the bridge cut to chop up fruit for our smoothies. We learnt to hold the pieces of fruit with our fingers either side in the bridge. Place the knife in between the bridge and push down. We spent time preparing the different fruits. Making sure we cut the fruits small enough for the blender. We got to plave the fruits we wanted in our smoothies in a cup and then we put it in a blender. We watched as Miss Willis blended the fruits and we talked abiut the colours of our smoothies. We then had a lovely smoothie picnic in the garden where we drank our smoothies and talked about the tastes of them.
We started our heartsmart lesson with the Bible quote: 'With God's power working in us, God can do much, much more than anything we can ask or imagine.' Ephesians 3:20. We discussed dreams and how some dreams aren't the ones when you sleep but actually things that we really want in life. WE looked at an example of a dream board and talked about how it was all things people wanted. We spent some time thinking about what we wanted and then stuck pictures and words on our dream boards. We talked about our dreams, stating ' a dream in my heart is to be a vet.' It was really lovely to hear about everyone's dreams.
In our RE lessons we talked about Jesus going to Jerusalem and what he did in Jerusalem. We talked about him going to the Synagogues. We discussed Passover and how this was the reason for visiting Jerusalem. We listened to the story of Moses parting the red sea to save the people of Israel, leading them out of Egypt. We then looked at the Seder plate and talked about the meanings of each type of food they had on the plates. We drew our own Seder plates.
This week in Geography we have been looking at what life is like in a city. We talked about how we live in Wybunbury which is a village. Villages have a small amount of people, lots of green spaces and not many shops. We learnt that cities are a lot bigger, they often have cathedrals and lots of people. We talked about Manchester being a city near to us. We then looked at some photos of Winnie and Winston's adventures, we saw different landmarks, we worked out that the landmarks were in London. We found out that London is the capital of England. We then discussed the landmarks and named the ones we knew. After we played bingo and ticked off different things we could find in London.
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
