Happy Friday Team!

We have been super busy in our English. We have finished our first BIG write of year 1! Everyone worked super hard on planning their problem penguins and elephant endings. We used our plans to help us write our paragraphs in writing and then we used our green pens to edit our work making sure it all made sense and we had remembered our punctuation.

In maths we have carried on looking at numbers to 10. We looked closely at number lines and how they are set out. We spent some time finding missing numbers. We did our first end of unit quiz and everyone concentrated on their own jobs and tried really hard.

We carried on looking at Harvest in our RE sessions. We watched a video all about harvest, learning what local farmers do to complete the harvest. We spent some time discussing our harvest and we decided harvest in the United Kingdom had gone well because everyone has enough to eat. We also talked about what happens when harvest does go well and why. We said too much sun, too much rain and bad soil can affect the harvest. We decided we need to help those who have a bad harvest because it shows kindness.

In our computing we had a go at using laptops. We were using the trackpad and learning to click and drag. We spend some time on paint trying to use our click and drag skills to create our own artwork. We planned what we were going to draw on the iPads and then tried to do it on the laptops. We found it was a lot harder using a trackpad but no one gave up!

This week in History we looked at the toys our grandparents would play with. We watched some videos of old toys, we especially loved watching the Jack in the Box jump out of the box. We talked about whether the toys are similar to what we play with now. We linked our history to our science and talked about how older toys are made from different materials to what they are made from today. We each had a different picture of an old toy and we listed the materials it was made from in the past.

In science we looked at materials properties. We talked about properties being something that described how a material felt or looked. We listened the properties of metal, wood, paper and plastic. We then got to use a feely bag with different materials in and had to use properties to guess what was inside of the bag. It was a lot of fun figuring out what material had what properties.

In PE, the focus has been jumping. We worked on jumping from two feet to land on two feet, bending our legs to help us take off and bending our legs when we land to take the impact. When we had perfected it, we played lots of games that included hopping, balancing and jumping to work on all the skills from the unit so far. Everyone had a super PE lesson and should be so proud of how they behaved!

In art we carried on learning about sculptures. We found out our final sculptures were going to be creatively medals. We spent some time looking at different medals, talking about what we liked about them. We sketched the medals we liked in our new sketch books. Then we looked at creatively medals and then spent some time planning our medals, drawing our different shapes and thinking about how we would decorate them. Everyone was really focused and calm, creating amazing plans. I cannot wait to see the finished medals.

We were very excited to see shapes appear on our screen in our music lesson! We learnt new shape names – pentagon and octagon. We drew the shapes in the air and really enjoyed watching the shapes fly across the screen! Great job Year 1!

In wellbeing we talked about things that make us smile and things that bug us. We love drawing in our well-being books and taking some time to express our feelings.

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
