Happy Half Term!
Year 1 have had a wonderful week this week! Everyone has worked super hard. Well done to everyone for joining in and trying our best at sports day! Everyone has taken their strawberry plants home to hopefully watch them grow! Fingers crossed!
In our English we have been writing our own stories about a secret place. We have worked hard on planning and writing our Octopus opening, build up bears and problem penguin. I look forward everyone's endings.
In maths we have been looking at numbers too 100! We have been using 100 squares, number lines and resources to help us know our numbers. We spent some time looking at filling in missing numbers and looking at one more and one less.
In our phonics we have been recapping sounds that we have not embedded in our learning yet. Learning different ways to read and write words. We practiced reading some tricky red words. We read a range of RWI books to improve our blending and fluency. In the afternoons we have been watching phonics videos, reading lots of different words.
We have been completing our missing posters in our computing sessions. We have had to type the information and then we used the tool bar to edit our writing to make it stand out. We changed the size of the font, colours and used bold, italics and underlines. We have been playing a typing game to help know where each key is on the keyboard.
In History we have been looking at the seaside in the past when Grace Darling was alive and comparing to what the seaside is like in the present. We learnt about bathing machines and what clothes we wear at the beach.
In science we have recapped all the different plants we have learnt about. We discussed the meaning of wild and garden plants, evergreen and delicious trees and vegetables and fruits. We looked at the similarities and differences between the different plants and listed them.
In music this week, we completed our end of unit assessment in table groups. We worked well together and thought very hard about our answers. Great work Year 1!
We have made masks in HeartSmart. After we had finished making our masks, we talked about how we can sometimes hide our true thoughts and feelings. Sometimes we pretend things are okay even when we don’t feel okay on the inside. HeartSmart means being aware of how we feel and not being afraid to share our true feelings with people we trust. We talked about all the people we can trust and talk to if we need too. We finished by remembering it is ok to dress up and play with masks but it is a mistake if we are trying to hide who we are! Bible reference: Jesus saw her weeping, and he saw how the people with her were weepingalso; his heart was touched, and he was deeply moved. John 11:33.
In our RE we looked at how Hindus celebrate the birth of a baby. We discussed the similarities to how Muslims celebrate the birth of babies. We then discussed whether we remember our first trip out or the first solid foods we ate. WE completed our questful maps at the end of the session.
I hope everyone has a lovely half term!
