Happy Friday Team! We have had a super busy week in Year 1.
In our English lessons we went into the attic to hunt for Old Bear. We talked about how he must be feeling stuck in the attic all alone. When we found Old Bear we wrote down what he looked like and how he was feeling using a role on the wall photo. We read an example text and highlighted the amazing things in it such as full stops and capital letters.
In math we have carried on counting to 10. We looked at counting on from any number, representing numbers to 10 and one more. We have loved doing the discover and the working in our Power Math Books to show our understanding.
In computing we have been looking at technology. We found the definition of technology: when people create something to help us. We sorted between technology and not technology. Everyone went on a technology hunt around the classroom and discussed how something is technology.
We found out our big question in history. We were asked are toys in the past the same or different to toys today. We discussed past meaning something that has already happened. We said old toys are made with different materials. We then drew our favourite toys and talked about when we played with them.
In our PE sessions we learned that good balance means stillness and we worked on our throwing (two handed) and catching a bounced ball. We had be careful to ensure we bounced the ball precisely so that it bounced just once before reaching our partners.
We have started looking at materials in science. We looked at defining different materials. Then everyone became material investigators and we went on a hunt to find different materials. We finished the session by labelling materials.
In art we have been looking at sculptors and sculptures. We talked about how the different sculptures are made and now they made us feel. We loved talking about what we thought about the sculptures and what we could spot. We can't wait to make our own sculptures next week!
In our music lesson this week, we became peas!! We did our best 'pea poses!' Our first song of our unit – Find the beat, saw us dance and move like our onscreen pea character. We copied his moves, followed by those of the animals that appeared across the screen. We then did our best pea smiles! We loved this week's character!
We have been looking at harvest in our RE lessons. We discussed how harvest has changed over the years. We discussed people celebrating harvest because they believe God is making sure people have enough food.
In HeartSmart we have been looking power. We talked about power sources and where it comes from. We then pointed out the power buttons in our classroom. We a song with the lines 'we've got the power'. We talked about how we have the best powers in the class. We have the power to make others feel good or bad. We thought about ways to make people feel bad, for example calling people names, kicking or hitting. Then we talked about how to use our powers for good, for example smiling, asking if others are ok and giving hugs. We looked at the bible reference: For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son. God gave his Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life. John 3:16 and talked about how God has given his son for good. We promised to use our powers for good.
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
