Happy Friday Team!

In our English lessons, we have been focusing on using "and" and plurals to make our sentences more accurate. We know that a plural means more than one. We have been looking at the Old Bear example text to help us with our learning. We read the story carefully, answered questions about it, and found the answers in the text. We also explored words that describe Old Bear and talked about why Duck had tears falling down their cheek. We recorded two different ways the toys tried to reach Old Bear. Finally, we had a go at writing a list poem. We started by gathering words and phrases, then thought carefully about adjectives and nouns, and finally put them together to create our own poem.

In our maths lessons, we started the week by making number bracelets to help with our number bond knowledge. We moved the beads and said the number equations aloud. Miss Willis explained that we would be going on a Number Mission this week! Each day, we have focused on a different number. We begin by watching a Numberblocks episode all about that number, then we have a go at finding all the number bonds within it. We work carefully to record our number equations systematically. We started with the number six, collecting and removing treasure to help us find the bonds. We then learnt a maths magic trick when exploring seven -- by rolling a dice, we discovered that the number on the bottom (or opposite side) always adds up to 7 with the top number. When we looked at eight, we talked about doubles, starting with double 4 equals 8, and then finding one less and one more to discover the rest of the number bonds. We also learnt that we can turn addition equations around and they still make the same total. We are really looking forward to continuing our Number Mission next week!

In our RE lesson, we continued learning about the Harvest and explored how the Jewish religion celebrates it through the Festival of Sukkot. We learnt that, in accordance with the laws in the Book of Leviticus, the Festival of Sukkot is celebrated each year when all the harvest is gathered in. As well as celebrating the good gifts of the harvest and God's provision, Sukkot is also a time to remember the Exodus. We listened to the Bible story of Moses leading the people out of Egypt, when they camped in the wilderness in makeshift shelters. Jewish people remember this by building a Sukkah, a special shelter decorated with fruit and natural materials, where the stars can still be seen through the roof. As a class, we built our own Sukkah and talked about what we had learnt. Then, in small groups, we made mini Sukkahs using different materials such as Lego, blocks, lolly sticks, and shoeboxes. We had great fun making them and finished our lesson by enjoying a biscuit inside our class Sukkah.

In PE, we continued playing games and started by moving around the area with a ball, making sure to scan so we didn't bump into each other. We then practiced throwing and catching, focusing on tracking the ball carefully. We used cupped hands, tried crocodile catches, and even one-handed catches. If we got really good, we challenged ourselves to clap before catching the ball! After that, we played a game called Spider Web, where we had to follow the ball to weave the web. One of our favorite games was Robin Hood, where we raced to collect treasure from the middle and passed it back to our teams. With Coach Beth, we worked on our running skills, playing superhero running games and focusing on pumping our arms and driving our knees high.

In our Art lesson, we had time to finish our medals, carefully adding all the details we wanted. Once we had completed decorating them, Miss Willis helped us attach a safety pin to the back so we could wear them proudly. We are all very pleased with the sculptures we created and proud of our hard work.

In Music this week, we watched a short clip of a youth orchestra performing Mattachins (Sword Dance). We noticed that the orchestra was made up of musicians playing a variety of string instruments, with most of them playing violins. We really enjoyed this lively piece of music. Next, we listened to The Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a by Tchaikovsky. We recognised this piece straight away and began to hum along. This orchestra included different instrumental sections, and it was lovely to see the conductor guiding each group. Finally, we listened to Stravinsky: The Firebird, K10, 1945 Suite: V. Scherzo: Dance of the Princesses. This piece reminded us of a chase scene, so we used it to recreate a cat-and-mouse chase, moving in time with the changing tempo of the music.

In our Computing lesson, we looked at laptops and talked about how to use the mouse and keyboard. We had to listen carefully and decide which part Miss Willis was describing. Then we explored the different keys on the keyboard and learned how to use the backspace key, the space bar, and the arrow keys. Once we knew what the keys did we had a go at writing our own sentences. We really enjoyed having the chance to practise using the laptops and learning new skills.

In Geography, we looked at the Arctic, focusing on Greenland. We learned about how people live there and discovered some fun facts about the Inuits. We also recapped what human and physical features mean, understanding that human features are made by people while physical features are natural. Then we looked at different places near the Arctic and sorted their features into human and physical categories.

In Science, we recapped the different properties of materials that we remembered and discussed which materials had those properties. We then carried out an investigation to find out which material was the strongest. We used cardboard, plastic, and metal to make bridges, then placed counters on them until they bent or collapsed. We recorded our results and decided which material was the strongest. It was great fun, and we managed some really high counting during our investigation!

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend! See you all on Monday!
