This week and last have been very busy weeks. Can we believe that next week will be our full final week? The last two weeks you have been poets, smoothie makers and racers.

In English last week, you completed a hot writer where you independently wrote your instructions on how to make a smoothie. These were beautifully written that included some amazing imperative verbs and super handwriting. I was so proud reading them through!

In English this week, you have started to look at poetry and rhyme. You were introduced to what rhyme is and we found different rhyming couplets in a poem. You then created your own rhyming words that rhymed with different words from the seaside. We then used these words to create our own seaside poem called a 'week at the seaside'. These will be displayed in our study work books.

In maths last week, we completed an arithmetic and reasoning quiz. You were absolutely amazing and you really enjoyed completing these different quizzes.

In this week, we have carried on looking at time. You are fantastic at reading o'clock and half past on a clock now. You have also learnt the days of the week and months of the year, this is something we need to continue to practice. At the end of the week, you learnt how to measure time by using a stopwatch to time how long you did certain activities such as doing 25 star jumps or writing your name 10 times.

We have had some very busy afternoons and learning opportunities the last two weeks.

Last Friday, we took a trip down to the church to celebrate the 200 year anniversary of our school. It was beautiful to watch the KS2 children say their lines so beautifully and to hear the singing of everyone in school. It was a lovely experience to be a part of and I was so proud of how well you behaved on the way to church and inside the church too. A huge thank you to Mrs Chesters for your keepsake teddies.

In DT last week, you continued looking at different fruits and vegetables. We had a taste test of a range of fruits and vegetables and decided to do a vote on which ones would go into our smoothies. I was so proud of how all of your had a try at tasting new food. We decided on making a raspberry and pineapple smoothie. What fun we had chopping the fruit up, adding different ingredients and blending it all together. Some of you enjoyed it that much you had 4 servings! We built upon all of our learning and evaluated our smoothie.

In Geography we have continued to look at the country's of the United Kingdom. We have visited both Wales and Ireland in the last two weeks. We looked at the traditional music, food and symbols that represent these places. We even learnt about what the capital cities were called.

In Re, we have continued to learn about Judaism. We are focusing on the story of Joseph which is written in the Torah. You have thought carefully about the feelings of jealousy and the right way to deal with this feeling. You have also learnt about the cupbearer and baker's dream and how God helped Joseph to interpret these dreams.

This week in our HeartSmart lesson, we were learning that being ourselves is the best! We know that pretending to be someone else at times can be fun, but we are at our best when we are ourselves – like we were made for. Bible Reference – 'I praise you because you made me in an amazing and wonderful way.' Psalm 139:14

Wow! We really enjoyed our song this week in music. We were amazed to see a: dolphin, turtle, stingray and even a submarine go across the screen! We liked the lyrics and moved along to the beat. We also worked well with our carpet-partners. Well done year 1.

Throughout this week we have also been creating pieces of art and writing for our study work. We can't wait to take these home at the end of the school year.

Last week we even fitted in our talent show auditions for Wybunbury Delves got talent!

As well as all of this amazing learning, you have also practiced for sports day ready for the big event which was today. I am completely and utterly blown away by your incredible behaviour, sportsmanship and bravery that you showed today. You made me so proud and I couldn't stop smiling from start to finish. To see you cheering on your peers and having a try at racing even when you aren't so confident was just amazing. It just makes me immensely proud! A huge well done to yellow team who won the overall KS1 sports day and green team who won the overall KS2 team.

These last two weeks have made memories for you that will last a life time. I am very sad that our time together is coming to an end but we still have so much fun to look forward to next week.

We will be having our Y1 seaside theme day on 18th July, please come dressed in your favourite summery outfits, sea animals or anything blue! An email has been sent around with more details on.

Have the best weekend Y1 and let's hope that sun continues to shine!

See you on Monday superstars,

Miss Haynes
