Wow, Reception Class! We have reached the end of our first term together, and I am so proud of how you have settled into school life and embraced learning.
You truly are shining lights in our school community!
This week, we followed the adventures of Patch the Pumpkin as part of our learning theme. Patch was a special pumpkin born with a heart-shaped mark on his side. At first, Patch was bullied for being different, and he tried to hide his unique mark. But Patch discovered that whenever he did good deeds, helped others, or showed kindness, a light from inside him shone out.
Inspired by Patch's story, we carved our own Patch Pumpkin and lit it each morning next to our lighthouse as a reminder to let our lights shine.
Our school vision, taken from Matthew 5:16, reminds us to "Let your light shine."
This week, we focused on being the light by bringing moments of joy or hope to others. We called these POW moments because, just like a superhero, they have a powerful impact on those around us! Each day, we reflected on how we have shone our lights brightly by showing kindness and uplifting others. Reception Class, your acts of kindness have made people smile and helped build the wonderful community we share in class.
Patch and his friends lived by four simple rules, which we thought were fantastic and decided to add to our own classroom values:
Be respectful
Be nice
Be kind
Be helpful
Be ready
Include everyone
Finally, in the spirit of waste not, want not, we used all the fleshy parts from Patch to make a delicious pumpkin soup. While it wasn't everyone's favourite, many of us loved it so much that we had second helpings! Mmmm, yummy!
We have also dried out all the pumpkin seeds to plant up at a later date.
With Coach Gabriel, we put our running, dodging, throwing and catching skills to great use with a game based on American Football. We also enjoyed some great games of Pip, Pip, Pumpkin !
Reception Class, you've truly shown how amazing you are this term. Keep shining your light!
Have a wonderful rest over half term.
I can't wait to see what learning adventures we will go on when we get back.
