Another busy in Reception Class.
Let's share some of our learning...
This week in Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Wellbeing, we continued with HeartSmart and learned about the power of kind words. We passed around cotton wool and sandpaper, discussing how each one felt. We realised that, just like these materials, our words can be soft and kind or rough and hurtful. We talked about how using soft, kind words makes others feel good, while rough, scratchy words can hurt a friend's feelings. We thought of different kind words and phrases we can say to our friends.
Boris reminded us, "We can all use kind words when talking to our friends!"
Bible link was: "Kind words are like honey, sweet to taste and good for your health." Proverbs 16:24.
In Expressive Arts and Design Development, we explored folk music by listening to Frog's Legs and Dragon's Teeth by Bellowhead. We learned that folk music often tells stories and has an upbeat rhythm that makes people want to dance. As we listened, we danced like dragons and frogs, which was so much fun! We also discussed the beat of the music, recognizing that some songs have a fast beat, some have a slow beat, and others have both. We practiced keeping the beat in different ways, including clapping, marching, and swaying. Finally, we sang along to various nursery rhymes, adding actions and keeping the beat using different movements.
In Literacy Development, we planned and wrote the problem and ending sections of our Little Red story retell. We know that making a strong plan with key words helps us work more independently and produce great writing.
Reception Class you are becoming a group of fantastic sentence writers. Well done!
In Mathematical Development, our focus this week was subtraction, particularly using our prior knowledge of number bonds to ten to help us. We used the part-whole model to work out subtraction number bonds by following the missing part structure. For example:"First, I had ten, then I took away six, now I have four left."
In Physical Development, we continued our gymnastics sessions. For our warm-up, we played the letters game, where we took a jump forward each time Mrs. Ward called out a letter sound that was in our name. We practiced jumping with our feet together, using our arms to propel us forward, and landing with control.
In our main session, we recapped our rocking movements from last week and learned how to complete a pencil roll and an egg roll. We then created a sequence of rocks and rolls, which we performed in front of the class.
Afterward, we helped set up the gym equipment and practiced different ways of traveling, balancing, and jumping. We traveled between sections using mats, where we performed our rocks and rolls in a sequence. It was all great fun! We ended our session with a cool down and a self-assessment, reflecting on what we felt we did well and what we need to practice more next week.
Continuing on our Questful journey to understand why Christians believe Easter is all about love, in our Understanding the World Development, we first recapped what we have learned so far:
We reread 'Guess How Much I Love You' and then came up with our own fun ways to measure love. We created pictures of ourselves doing something special with the people we love and made a prayer tree where we thanked God for the people who love and care for us.
Finally, we explored paintings of the Easter story from around the world, discussing what we liked and disliked about them. We were able to retell parts of the story just by looking at the paintings, which helped us understand how Easter is celebrated in different places.
Happy weekend everyone, have a restful time.
See you Monday
