Reception Class "Look how much we've grown!"

Wow! What a year it's been in Reception! We can't believe how quickly the time has flown by. It feels like just yesterday we were stepping into school for the first time, a little bit nervous, but full of wonder and excitement. Now we're ready to leap into Year 1, with big smiles and even bigger hearts.

Here's a look back at some of our favourite moments and memories from our incredible year together:

Settling In & Growing Together: At the start of the year, we spent time exploring our classroom and getting to know our new friends. We learnt our routines, sang songs to remember our golden rules, and discovered the joy of choosing our own learning in the classroom and outdoor areas. We soon became a real team, supporting each other, sharing, and celebrating each other's successes.

Reading and Writing Magic: We've become superstar readers and writers! We learned so many sounds in phonics and have used them to write labels, lists, poems, and even our own stories. We wrote letters, imagined life as sea creatures, created messages of kindness, and helped characters like Noi and the Little Red Hen. We are confident writers who now love to say, "I can write that!"

Maths Masters: We've explored numbers, shapes, patterns and more. We've doubled, halved, subtracted and added. We counted dinosaurs, made shape pictures, shared snacks to learn about division, and used number lines to jump forwards and back. Maths is everywhere in our day and we love spotting it in our play!

Understanding the World: We've been time travelers, weather watchers, animal explorers and mini scientists. We celebrated seasonal changes, learned about habitats, explored the importance of VE Day, and thought about how we can help protect our planet. We met giant African land snails, learned about ocean tides, and watched seeds grow in soil and in cotton wool!

Creativity and Joy: We've painted, drawn, built, danced and sung our hearts out! Whether we were designing VE Day wreaths, dancing like sea creatures, or performing Big Bear Funk, we expressed ourselves with confidence and pride. In music, we listened to composers like Holst and Tchaikovsky, and even played our own glockenspiel compositions.

PE and Play: Coach James, Gabriel and Beth helped us grow strong and confident through movement, games, and challenges. Whether we were dodging like jellyfish, balancing on wobble boards, or leaping through obstacle courses, we kept our bodies moving and our smiles wide. We loved outdoor learning and exploring all the magic in our Reception garden and allotment.

PSED & Wellbeing – Growing Kind Hearts: We've learned so much about ourselves and each other. We've thought about how to be honest, kind, brave and resilient. We shared our feelings, celebrated our uniqueness, and looked back through our wellbeing journals to see how far we've come. With Boris the HeartSmart robot, we learned that "There's always a way," and that "I am loved."

RE and Reflection: Our RE journey helped us explore stories Jesus heard and the messages behind the parables. We listened to tales like The Sower and Noah's Ark, thought about trust, kindness and hope, and linked these to our school values. We took part in worship, reflected quietly during Remembrance, and led our own class collective worship too.

Special Moments: We've had amazing special days too, from Earth Day to sports day, trips to visitors, and street-style parties to mark VE Day. We even had cricket lessons and made new memories when visiting our future Year 1 classroom!

Wybunbury Moss with Year 6 Buddies -A Wonderful Finale: To finish our Reception year, we went on a very special trip to Wybunbury Moss with our wonderful Year 6 buddies and the Natural England team. It was a day full of adventure and discovery! We went pond dipping and found water boatmen, pond skaters, small fish and mayfly larvae. We made beautiful nature crowns using grasses and leaves from the meadow field. We swooshed our nets through the tall grass and discovered grasshoppers, crickets, ladybirds, and even some tiny orb spiders. Being out in nature, exploring, learning and laughing with our buddies was the perfect way to end our Reception journey.

We are so proud of everything we've achieved this year. We've laughed, played, learned and grown together. Now, we're ready to take the next step in our journey. Watch out, Year 1, here we come!
