What a fantastic week of learning, Reception Class!
Literacy Development and Language & Communication
This week, we continued our journey with the story 'Star in the Jar', delving into its structure. We learned that the story has four main parts--the opening, build-up, problem, and ending. We also explored rhyming words, practiced using different sentence openers, and discovered words that connect different parts of the story smoothly. We did some fantastic independent writing by describing the character Yan, showing how much we've learned over the past few weeks.
At home, we had the fun task of filling jam jars with treasures, which inspired us to write lists of items. What great practice for descriptive and list-style writing!
A huge thank you to our families for supporting us in this task, we really appreciate it.
Physical Development
With Coach Gabriel, we continued practicing our throwing, catching, and passing skills through basketball games. We also enjoyed playing some new invasion games that helped build teamwork and coordination, especially using our new skills of high knees and heel flicks.
Mathematical Development
This week, we focused on 2D shapes! We identified the names of various shapes and described their properties, such as the number of sides and corners. We went on a shape hunt around the classroom and found 2D shapes in everyday objects. We also created shape prints and discovered that even if a shape is rotated, it remains the same.
Understanding the World
In RE, Clever Cub introduced our new concept of Incarnation with items symbolizing Jesus's birth, like a birthday card, candles, and a nativity set. We listened to the story Clever Cub Welcomes Baby Jesus and discussed why Christmas celebrates Jesus's birth. We loved setting up different nativity scenes and reading various versions of the story, getting ready for our very own Nativity storytelling!
We also had a special visit from PC Nick, who taught us about his role in the community. We even got to explore his police car and hear the siren, it was so exciting!
Expressive Arts and Design
In the craft area, we've been expressing ourselves creatively, painting large-scale pictures of ourselves, making crowns and bracelets, and creating cards and pictures for family and friends. Our creativity shines in everything we make!
Personal, Social, and Emotional Development
This week was Anti-Bullying Week. We learned that bullying happens repeatedly and on purpose, and it's not the same as a one-time accident or disagreement with friends. We discussed who to talk to if we or someone else is experiencing bullying. For World Kindness Day, we focused on making others smile through random acts of kindness.
We were thrilled to welcome Bart Gee, who shared his inspiring story of overcoming difficulties and turning them into possibilities. Bart played the piano for us, and we sang along, creating a truly special and memorable moment.
In Heartsmart, we started thinking about "letting the love in." We recapped the story of Boris, whose heart filled with love because he chose to believe the kind words of others. We talked about how we can let love into our hearts by being open to kindness from friends and family.
Reception Class, you have shown such kindness, creativity, and curiosity this week. Keep letting your light shine as we continue our journey of learning and growing together!
Have a fantastic weekend
