Letting Our Light Shine.
This Week's Learning Adventures

We have had another exciting week of learning, exploring, and discovering. Here's what we have been up to!

Personal, Social & Emotional Development and Wellbeing
This week in HeartSmart, we talked about all the people who help us at school and in our wider community. We thought about the different jobs people do to support us and help us every day. We also thought of ways we can show that we are thankful for everything they do.
Boris says, "Thank you for helping me."
We also read a special Bible verse:
"Every time I think of you, I thank God for you." Philippians 1:3

During our wellbeing time, we explored our five senses: sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing. We talked about how each sense helps us experience the world around us. Then, we shared our favourite things for each sense with a partner.
To finish, we practiced our favourite wellbeing activity: calm breathing. We always feel relaxed and happy after doing this together.

Mathematical Development
This week, we have been learning about weight, building our knowledge on what we learned in the autumn term about heavy and light objects.
We used balance scales to compare different objects to decide which were heavier or lighter. We also discovered something surprising, some small objects can be heavier than larger ones, depending on what they are made from! It was fun testing our ideas and making predictions.

Literacy Development
This week, we created pictures of ourselves as superheroes and wrote fantastic sentences about our superpowers. We thought carefully about what makes us special and how we can use our superpowers to help others.
We also wrote thank you letters to Mr Hadfield to show our appreciation for all the amazing things he has taught us in Forest School. We are so grateful for the fun experiences we have had outdoors.

Physical Development
We continued to develop our love of PE and had so much fun improving our rugby skills with Coach Gabriel. Each week, we are getting better at working as a team, running with the ball, and practicing our coordination.

Expressive Arts & Design Development
In music this week, we listened to a piece by Mozart called Horn Concerto No. 4: Third Movement – Rondo. We really enjoyed listening to it and said it made us feel happy. As we closed our eyes, we imagined horses galloping through a field. We listened carefully and identified the different instruments, including trumpets, violins, and cellos. The most exciting part of our lesson was playing the glockenspiels! We found out that "glockenspiel" is a German word, and that this instrument is similar to a xylophone but has metal keys instead of wooden ones. We also noticed that each key had a letter on it. We played the C note while singing, "If you're happy and you know it, play your glock!" It was so much fun, and we loved making music together.

Understanding the World Development
This week was our last Forest School session with Mr. Hadfield, and we made the most of our time outside. After listening to the stories Slug Needs a Hug and Superworm, we worked together to create a love heart out of twigs. We filled it with mud from fresh molehills and then searched under logs for slugs and worms to place inside. To end our final session, we made one last fire and toasted marshmallows. We have loved our time exploring nature and look forward to seeing Mr. Hadfield again when we are in Year 1!

In RE, we completed our Questful map to show everything we have learned about prayer and how people of different faiths pray. We really enjoyed exploring different places of worship and learning how people from different religions talk to God.

A huge thank you to Year 6 for teaching us coding on the iPads in buddy time this week. We love our Friday afternoons with them, especially when they teach us new skills.

This has been another wonderful week of learning, and we have loved sharing our discoveries. We are so excited for everything we will learn next week!
