This week in Reception, we've continued to shine our lights brightly through our learning, kindness and curiosity!

Here is a little snapshot of our week...

Literacy Development: This week we finished the ending elephant part of our story, when Dan's ball pops back out of the hole! We had great fun thinking about how our story comes to a happy ending. For our incidental writing, we looked closely at pictures of the animals from the story and thought of words to describe how they look and how they might feel.
We said things like, "The troll is blue," "The troll is hairy," and "The troll is happy."
We then used our ideas to write simple repetitive sentences with the same starting words. We are growing in confidence as writers every day!

Mathematical Development: Our focus in maths has been on the properties of 2D shapes. After reading The Smeds and the Smoos by Julia Donaldson, we had lots of fun designing our own aliens using different shapes. We talked about their features, using a large circle for the head and smaller circles for the eyes. In continuous provision, we used the tap tap boards and shape pieces to make shape pictures and even created alien flowers out of playdough!

Language and Communication: Following on from Mrs Chester's worship, we had some brilliant discussions about making good choices. We thought carefully about the good choices we can make with our friends, at home and in our play. We know that when we make kind and thoughtful choices, we help our lights shine even brighter.

Understanding the World: We continued our learning about Harvest, a time of thanksgiving. We learnt that it used to be called Creationtide when Christians thought about God's wonderful creation. We talked about why people like to say thank you to God for food that is grown, for fruit, and for fresh water. Together, we shared the things we are thankful for, our families, our friends, our food and our world.

Expressive Arts and Design: In music this week we listened to 'I Can Sing a Rainbow' by Peggy Lee and tried to hear the different instruments being played. We also had fun singing counting songs such as Five Little Ducks and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive. We learnt new finger actions for our songs and loved keeping in time with the beat!

Physical Development: In PE, Bertie Bunny was joined by Dexter the Dog for another fun-filled session! We practiced side-to-side and forward jumping, remembering to keep our knees together and bend our hips to jump safely. We played the "Carrots in the Hoop" game, where we had to take a carrot without getting caught by Dexter the Dog. It was so much fun!

Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Our theme this week was When I'm at Home. We talked about what we like to do at home, who we are with, and how being at home makes us feel. We also practiced a wellbeing activity called muscle tensing, helping us to notice how our bodies feel when we are calm and relaxed.

What a busy and joyful week it has been in Reception! We have shone our lights through our creativity, kindness and teamwork and we can't wait to keep shining even brighter next week!
