Another busy week in Reception Class.
Lets us share a snapshot of some of the activities we have enjoyed...

Physical Development: Thursday was Coach James' last day with us, and we made sure to make him proud with our fantastic learning attitudes! We continued working on invasion games, warming up with the car game, where we practiced moving at different speeds and directions, even reverse! We also played our all-time favourite game of Sharks and Minnows and learned a fun new game called Animals.

Mathematical Development: This week, our mathematical focus was on comparing quantities of identical objects using the language of more, fewer, and less. We used identical objects to explore comparisons in different orientations, which allowed us to be creative in how we compared groups of identical items. It was exciting to discover new ways of thinking about quantities.

Literacy Development and Language & Communication: In Literacy, we made great progress with our storytelling! This week, we planned and wrote the 'Build-up Bear' section of our stories, 'The Something' and 'Dan and the Ball.' We were proud to use our storytelling skills to bring these characters and their adventures to life!

Personal, Social & Emotional Development: In our HeartSmart session, we talked about the things we love and how they make us feel. We recapped Boris' story about how his heart was filled with love and discussed the things that helped to fill it. Boris reminded us, "When I am with my family and friends, my heart feels full." We agreed! This linked beautifully to Philippians 1:3, "I thank God every time I remember you." We reflected on the importance of love and gratitude in our lives.

This week in our well-being time, we focused on the important topic of keeping ourselves safe. We thought about how we can stay safe in different places--at home, at school, and when we're out and about. We began by discussing some of the classroom rules that help keep us safe, like using walking feet inside, sitting down when using scissors, and making sure we don't leave things lying on the floor. Everyone took turns sharing something they do to stay safe, and we heard some fantastic ideas! To end our session, we did a special well-being activity where we said positive affirmations to ourselves. We reminded ourselves that: "I am amazing, I am loved, I am kind."
It was a wonderful way to boost our self-esteem and practice self-love!

Understanding the World: In our RE session, we recapped the importance of names, both in our families and in Christian faith. This week, we learned about the name for God in the Muslim faith. We read My Muslim Family by Gill Vaisey, a story about a boy named Yusuf and how he practices his faith. We explored Islamic prayer beads, discovering that there are 99 beads, each representing a different name for God and reminding Muslims of God's characteristics and the way they should live their lives. We found these names to be special and important, and we've loved exploring this unit on how unique and special we all are!

As part of our Agents for Change Foodbank project, we also learned that October is Black History Month. This tied in perfectly with Harvest celebrations as we explored the inspiring young life of Marcus Rashford. We learned how he loved football, joined Manchester United at just 7 years old, and how his family sometimes needed food banks for support. When Marcus grew up, he wanted to help others who were struggling like he did, which made him feel happy. His efforts were recognized with an MBE for his work supporting others. We talked about how proud and happy it made us feel to have played a small part in helping others too.
Let's continue to spread kindness and make a difference Reception Class!

Expressive Arts and Design Development: This week in music, we had a blast listening to "Our House" by Madness. We thought it was a great, upbeat song that made us want to dance! We explored different ways to keep the beat, including marching, clapping, and stomping. It was exciting to listen carefully for the instruments we could hear--there were lots of them!

Next, we practiced our action songs, including "1, 2, 3, 4, 5," "Five Little Ducks," and "Pat-a-Cake." We had so much fun joining in with the actions and singing along. It was a wonderful session full of music, movement, and laughter!

Have a wonderful weekend Reception Class.
See you on Monday.
