Reception Class what a great week we have had.
Let's share a snapshot of what we have been learning...

Mathematical Development:
This week we delved into a new unit of work on measurement. Exploring concepts like height and distance, we used a nonstandard measure – the print of our hands – to compare and contrast objects. We focused on the skill of lining up objects to enhance our understanding of longer, shorter, and taller.

Literacy Development:
Our superhero journey continued as we channeled our previous learning and sentence work knowledge into some great independent writing about our chosen superhero. We emphasised sentence structure, with every sentence beginning with a capital letter, incorporating finger spaces, using 'Fred talk' to sound out words, and concluding with a full stop. We proudly declare ourselves "superhero writers" in Reception!

Understanding the World Development:
This week was enriched by a special visitor, Imran Kotwal, who shared insights into his Muslim faith during Interfaith week. We explored the 5 pillars of Islam, drawing connections to our previous discussions on prayer in our Religious Education unit. Engaging with a Muslim folk tale, "Nasruddin and the Banquet," we discussed the importance of not judging others based on appearances, by the clothes they wear, we should respect everyone as individuals.

Our forest school adventure with Mr. Hadfield involved creating 2D houses using various scavenged resources, practicing dragon sneezes to light a fire, and indulging in delicious toasted marshmallows.

Expressive Arts and Design:
This week we continued to develop our creative skills as we explored printing. Using diverse materials, surfaces, and textures, we explored the visual impact of prints in a variety of colours.

Physical Development:
Our physical development session with Coach James featured an exciting football game where we put our learned skills into practice. From kicking and passing to dodging and scoring goals.

Language and Communication Development:
Throughout the week, we continued to foster our language and communication development. From singing songs and reciting rhymes to indulging in captivating stories.
