A Fabulous End to Our Half Term
What a wonderful way to finish our week and this half term: spending the morning with our families at Messy Church! A huge thank you to all the families who took time out of their busy schedules to join us for a special morning of Easter themed crafts and activities. Together, we explored the biblical message of God's love for the world, shown through the gift of His son Jesus and his sacrifice for mankind. Looking around the hall, we saw so many joyful faces, sharing smiles, conversations, and moments of creativity. It was a beautiful reminder of the strong sense of community we have here at Wybunbury Delves.
Expressive Arts and Design: In music this week, we listened to 'Singing in the Rain', performed by Gene Kelly. We all really enjoyed the song and agreed that it made us feel happy! It was funny to think that, while we have had beautiful sunshine this week, the song is all about enjoying the rain. We learned that Singing in the Rain is from a film of the same name, made in the 1950s. We thought this was a very long time ago!
After discussing the song, we thought about other pieces of music related to the weather and learned about songs like Walking on Sunshine and Let It Snow from Frozen. We then had lots of fun singing some of our favorite action songs, including Heads, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes and Wind the Bobbin Up.
Personal, Social, and Emotional Development: For our HeartSmart session, we listened to the story Grumpy Frog by Ed Vere. The story is about a frog who becomes grumpy, upsets his friends, and then feels lonely when they don't want to play with him. In the end, he learns how important it is to say sorry. After reading the story together, we talked about how it is okay to feel grumpy sometimes, but we should not take those feelings out on our friends. We discussed different ways to help ourselves feel better when we are upset or cross.
Boris reminded us that "Saying sorry means we can carry on having fun with our friends."
We also linked this to the Bible verse, "Do for others just what you want them to do for you." (Luke 6:31).
Mathematical Development: This week, we continued to focus on patterns, building upon the knowledge we developed last week about AB patterns. We explored more complex patterns, such as ABB and AAB, using different shapes, colors, sizes, actions, and sounds. We had so much fun creating our own patterns and challenging our friends to continue them!
Physical Development: In PE, we continued to refine our gymnastics skills. After a warm up, we recapped the different rolls and rocks we have learned so far and discussed ways to improve them. We then put our skills into practice, focusing on making our movements smooth and controlled.
During the main part of the session, we traveled around the gymnastics apparatus in small groups, making sure to maintain good posture, use our arms for balance, and jump with both feet together. We worked hard on bending our knees and landing safely on two feet. After a cool down, we reflected on our performances, discussing what we did well and what we could add to our routines if we performed them again. Gymnastics has been such an exciting part of our PE lessons, and we are really proud of how much we have improved!
Understanding the World: In RE, we completed our Questful Map, which helped us deepen our understanding of why Christians believe Easter is all about love. We reflected on the verse, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, and whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16).
As part of this activity, we drew pictures of the people we love and the people who love us just as we are. We also illustrated key moments from Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday, and we answered the question: Why did Jesus die on the cross? Through our discussions and reflections, we have developed a real depth of understanding about the Easter story and why it is celebrated by Christians all around the world.
What an amazing half term it has been! We have loved every moment of learning, growing, and celebrating together. Well done, Reception Class, you continue to shine brightly!
A huge thank you to the PTA for their contribution to the new water tray and workbench in the Reception Class garden. We love them and look forward to many happy days of playing with them.
