A fabulous week in Year 6 from Sports Day to bread baking, we have had it all going on. Year 6 you make me smile each day and you impress me with your dedication and hard work. You are all ready for your next steps, and with just two weeks to go I will be sure to pack in as much as we can together.
This week we in Maths we have worked on reflecting and translating shapes using word problems. We have also used all our facts of a triangle to work out missing angles. I have been so impressed with all your hard work.
We have enjoyed some book club activities and listening to our class story this week.
We used have used some of our morning timetable to enjoy our cookery DT unit this week. We began our week tasting different breads and identifying which countries they came from. We then went on to design our own rolls and to think about the ingredients we wanted to add to our dough. We loved our baking morning and we want to say a huge thank you to Mrs Whittingham. You are brilliant. The results were amazing. We completed our unit by evaluating our products.
We have been busy in our afternoons learning our leavers songs in Music and we are now thinking about our words too. We will all get new words to learn soon. Our Leavers Service is at Church on 18th July at 1.30pm.
We have begun a new Science unit this week on classification. We recapped our learning using Liquorice Allsorts and thought about the categories each one could be classified in to. This gave us a good understanding of how to use a branching key. We then went out onto the field to collect living things – leaves! We collected 10 different leaves and studied them closely when back in the classroom. We identified all their characteristics and used this knowledge to classify them. I am impressed with the questions you chose Year 6 to develop your branching key. Well done.
We began a new RE unit this week focusing on – People of Faith. Our lesson question was "What is faith? What does it mean for a person to have faith?" Children were challenged to create a list of criteria needed by someone for them to qualify as a person with/of faith. We then went on to watch some videos of different Bible stories to consider what Jesus would say about having faith. We will continue with this unit next week.
We began a new Computing unit this week introducing my class to Micro:Bits. We spent some time understanding the different parts and how to use our laptops as an emulator. We programmed it to display different messages and pictures. We then learnt how to download our code onto the Micr:o:Bit and to make changes. We all loved this lesson and we are hoping to add movement and sound next week.
We have continued with our Art unit this week on sculptures of chairs. We used different images to collect resource ideas and evaluated the ones we liked. We are now ready to have a go at creating our own.
We have enjoyed two PE sessions this week and of course our wonderful Sports Day event. Well done to everyone who took part and a big well done to the Yellow House for being the overall winners. Thank for supporting our KS2 event.
We ended our week in the sunshine enjoying time on the adventure playground with our buddies. Something we always look forward to and never want to miss.
Just a quick reminder about Go Ape on Monday. Fingers crossed for lovely weather on.
Have a brilliant weekend.
Your teacher.
